The perfect way to explore Wolmido Island: the Wolmi Sea Train
I rode it myself!
It's highly recommended for a summer outing with kids,
or even a romantic date for couples.
However, I noticed that the usage instructions
can seem a bit complicated, right?
So, I'm going to lay out everything you need to know, from Wolmi Sea Train prices and parking,
to booking methods, how to ride, and even a recommended Wolmido travel itinerary!
I've got it all covered!
1. Wolmi Sea Train Booking Methods & Fares
There are two ways to book your train ticket.
Online booking is available on the Wolmi Sea Train website.
Please note, same-day online booking is not possible.
You must book by the day before your visit.
On-site booking is available at
all stations where the Sea Train operates.
You can use the kiosks located at each station.
I made my on-site booking at Wolmi Bada Station.
Train tickets can be booked for 30-minute intervals.
For example, 10:00 AM - 10:29 AM / 10:30 AM - 10:59 AM.
This is how it works:
You can board any train that arrives during your booked time slot.
On-site booking isn't always guaranteed.
Tickets can sell out, especially on busy days.
If you plan to visit on a weekend, I highly recommend online booking.
• Fares
Non-Incheon Residents
Adults: Weekdays ~$8 / Weekends ~$10
Seniors, Youth: Weekdays ~$6 / Weekends ~$7
Children: Weekdays ~$5 / Weekends ~$6
Disabled, National Merit Recipients: Weekdays ~$4 / Weekends ~$5
Incheon Residents (Weekdays & Weekends Same)
Adults: ~$6

Children are defined as 3 years old and above.
Seniors are defined as 65 years old and above.
If you are an Incheon resident, you'll need to provide proof of local residency!
2. Parking
For parking, you'll need to use the public parking lots at each station.
For Wolmi Bada Station, I highly recommend the Sangsang Platform 8th Pier Parking Lot.
It's spacious, pleasant, and best of all, free!
Well, wouldn't you know it, on the day I visited,
the National Singing Contest was being filmed,
so the Sangsang Platform parking lot was completely full.
3. How to Ride
You can re-board the Wolmi Sea Train once.
There are some rules, so make sure you understand them well.
If you departed from Wolmi Bada Station,
you can get off at any other station once
and then re-board.
However,
if you complete a full loop back to Wolmi Bada Station, re-boarding is no longer possible.
So, it's a good idea to pick one place nearby that you want to explore,
and use your one re-boarding opportunity there!
If you book online, you must board at Wolmi Bada Station.
The turnaround method is quite unique.
Instead of entering a temporary depot,
the entire track of the arriving train on the opposite side
shifts over to the track you're currently on for boarding.
So, if you get off at another station and need to return,
you can quickly cross over and board immediately.

Peak Season (April-October) Weekends: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Peak Season Weekdays: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Off-Peak Season: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
* Closed every Monday
• Train Interval
10-15 minutes
Having ridden it myself, it feels a bit longer than that.
I recommend visiting with plenty of time to spare.
• Round-trip Duration
45-50 minutes
4. My Wolmi Sea Train Experience
A cultural docent accompanies passengers inside the train.
Throughout the journey, they explain all the sights along both sides of the rail and their historical significance.
Even sections you might pass by without much thought become much more interesting and enriching with their explanations.
I initially thought the fare for this small monorail with only 4 stations was a bit expensive,
but considering the personnel costs for the docent, it felt like a perfectly reasonable price.
This mural, which looks like whiskey packaging, is the grain silo mural that's even in the Guinness Book of World Records!
The story connecting from the side of the starting point to the side of the ending point was the most impressive part.
A retired ship that was actually used for maritime security.
I also saw Moon Eye, the red Ferris wheel right next to the station.
It's not just a simple ride past the sea;
there's a diverse array of sights to see.
The monorail moves at a slow pace,
which adds to the enjoyment as you can listen and take in more with your eyes.
⚠️ Tip
Strollers must be folded to board.
There's no proper place to put them, so using a stroller is not recommended.
For babies who can't walk, a baby carrier is much more efficient!
While there is air conditioning and fans,
on scorching hot days, the internal temperature also rises, making it quite warm.
A handheld fan is a must-have ⭐️
5. Wolmi Sea Train Itinerary Recommendations
• With Kids
✔️ Pororo Theme Park
It's right in front of Culture Street Station.
It's a large-scale kids' cafe that occupies almost an entire building,
so I recommend a full-day visit, arriving on the first train and leaving on the last!
You can get a 40% discount with your Sea Train ticket.
✔️ National Maritime Museum
Advance reservations are absolutely essential for the Children's Museum.
It's a large museum, making it a great educational visit.
• For Dates or Visiting with Parents
✔️ Cruise Ship
The Wolmido cruise ship pier is right in front of Culture Street Station.
If walking around in this hot weather seems unappealing,
and indoor dates at shopping malls or department stores are starting to feel a bit dull,
why not take a cruise to refresh your mood and enjoy the sea breeze?
During weekday daytime hours, there are performance cruises.
On weekend evenings, there are fireworks cruises.
I'd recommend the performance cruise for parents,
and the fireworks cruise for a romantic date.
I noticed many people in their 50s and 60s riding the train; if you combine it with a cruise, you'll have checked off a month's worth of filial piety points!

6. Wrapping Up
You can get a fantastic view of the Wolmi Sea from the monorail.

When you stand at the door looking out,
it's like being on a moving observation deck,
which can be quite a thrilling experience!
Since it's mostly indoors, it's a fantastic spot to visit with kids, especially during a heatwave.
For those who want to see the ocean in a truly unique way,
Parents with kids who absolutely love rides,
And anyone looking to create precious memories with their parents,
I truly hope you give it a try!
Once the weather cools down, I'm planning to revisit with the kids,
making a whole day of it by combining the train with a cruise and some museum visits.
No, same-day online booking for the Wolmi Sea Train is not possible. You must complete your reservation on the website by the day before your intended boarding date.
