When dining in northern Ganghwado,
I was thinking of Geunmindo or Sura Traditional Yukgaejang,
but Geunmindo's Naver reservations
were already fully booked from Thursday.
I wondered if reservations might open up on the day itself,
but it turned out that wasn't the case either, sadly;;;
So, I headed to the closer Sura Traditional Yukgaejang.

the Sochang Experience Center.

Exterior

From the Sochang Experience Center,
after finishing all the activities,
I headed there feeling hungry,
and it was less than a 10-minute walk.

On the way to the Sochang Experience Center,
I had passed by and seen it,
so finding it was easy.

You have to take off your shoes outside
before entering.
Since it was lunchtime,
there were already quite a lot of people,
but the tables turned over quickly,
so we got a seat fairly fast.
Interior

There were many people inside,
so I couldn't take many photos.

It has a single-story 'ㄱ'-shaped Hanok (traditional Korean house) interior.

With exposed ceiling rafters
and traditional Hanji paper lighting,
you can truly soak in the Hanok ambiance
while you dine.
The floor was a bit uneven,
so it creaked a bit
every time people walked around.;
Menu

The Buckwheat King Dumplings (4 pieces) also seemed popular.
As for the Charcoal-Grilled Rib Dumplings (7 pieces),
they seemed easy for kids to eat,
and my eldest loves them, so we ordered those.

They say they use Ganghwa Island rice.
Banchan (Side Dishes)
Seokbakji (cubed radish kimchi), Yangpa Jangajji (pickled onions), Sukjunamul Muchim (seasoned bean sprouts)

Here's what we ordered:
Traditional Yukgaejang: ~$7 (x2)
Yukgaejang Ramen + Rice: ~$8
Charcoal-Grilled Galbi Mandu (dumplings): ~$4

They use Ganghwaseom rice here!

Yukgaejang Ramen + Rice
At Surajeon Tong Yukgaejang,
they even have Children's Seolleongtang (which my second child loves!),
and I thought the kids could enjoy some ramen,
which is why we chose this place.
These days, my kids actually like spicy flavors,
so they ended up having the regular Yukgaejang Ramen.

Ramen and rice for just ~$8...
The value for money was really good!
And the ramen noodles? What more can I say?
Absolutely delicious!
Our first child focused on eating the chewy noodles,
while our second child mixed rice into the soup.

Traditional Yukgaejang
As someone who loves authentic flavors,
I truly enjoyed this dish.
It was packed with ingredients, which I loved,
and there was plenty of meat, bracken, and green onions, even more than glass noodles.
The portion was generous,
making it great value for money.

Neither the Yukgaejang Ramen
nor the regular Yukgaejang was overly spicy.
It was a mild spice level that most ramen eaters
would find perfectly enjoyable.
(Our kids ate it without any fuss too!)
I added a generous amount of pepper
and mixed my rice into it.
It was so warm and comforting – just what I needed!

Charcoal-Grilled Galbi Mandu
There were 7 pieces.
The taste... did it really taste like charcoal-grilled galbi? Hmm...
Rather than the galbi-flavored, meat-packed dumplings
I usually have,
it felt more like a meat dumpling with plenty of filling.
(I didn't really get much galbi aroma... perhaps it was overpowered by the Yukgaejang? 🤔)

Personally,
I'm not usually a big fan of galbi dumplings,
but since these tasted more like regular meat dumplings, I actually liked them.
However, if I visit again,
I'll definitely try the Buckwheat King Dumplings!
Overall Review
They have Children's Seolleongtang (~$3) and
baby chairs available.
There were many families with children,
which was nice to see.
For a tourist spot, I think the value
is quite good.
The portions were quite generous.
Since it's close to a tourist attraction, accessibility is great,
so it can get busy.
However, we were able to get seated
quite quickly, which was a plus.
You have to take off your shoes outside
before entering,
so be careful that your shoes don't get mixed up
with others!
Now that our stomachs are warmly filled,
and to help with digestion,
we're off to Goryeo Palace Site to see the cherry blossoms!!
Off we go!
The Surajeontong Yukgaejang Main Branch is located less than a 10-minute walk from the Sochang Experience Center. It's convenient to move there after completing all activities at the Sochang Experience Center.
There is parking space for about 4-5 cars in front of the restaurant, but it fills up quickly. If the lot is full, you can use the Nammun Public Parking Lot.
For children, there's Kids' Seolleongtang for ~$3. The Yukgaejang Ramyeon + Rice set is ~$8, which comes with ramyeon and rice, and the spice level is mild enough for children to eat comfortably.
You must take off your shoes outside the restaurant before entering, and please be careful not to accidentally swap shoes with others. Additionally, the restaurant features a traditional single-story 'Giyeokja'-shaped hanok interior, and the floor may be somewhat uneven.
