1. Essential Info: Weihai Station & Weihai North Station
Weihai has two train stations:
Weihai Station and Weihai North Station.
Even though their names are similar, their locations are quite different,
so it's crucial to confirm which station you're departing from
before booking your ticket.
If you just glance at the station name when buying your ticket,
you might end up wandering to the wrong one!

Nearby attractions close to Weihai North Station include
International Beach and Huage 8th Street.
For Weihai Station, you'll find
Huaxia City and Hanlefang (Koreatown) nearby.

2. How to Get from Weihai to Yantai
Since my accommodation was near International Beach,
I took the high-speed train from Weihai North Station
to Muping Station.
Prices can vary depending on platform discounts,
but second-class tickets are available for ~$1-$2.

Route | Mode of Transport | Duration |
Weihai North Station → Muping Station | Train | 14 min |
Weihai Station → Muping Station | Train | 17 min |
Muping Station → Yantai City Center | Didi Taxi | 40 min |
You might be wondering, "Why go all the way to Muping Station?"
While there are direct trains from Weihai to Yantai,
they are incredibly infrequent.
Even after thoroughly checking the timetables,
it's often impossible to find a direct train
at your desired time..
And if you choose a connecting train, the transfer wait times
can become ridiculously long, leaving you with no other option..

If you take a Didi Taxi at Weihai North Station,
it will drop you off on the 1st floor, meaning you'll need to move further.

Luckily, the signboards are written in Korean,
so it's easy to figure out that you need to go to the 4th floor.

There's also a bus stop on the 1st floor,
and if the bus schedule at the ticket office aligns with your plans,
you could certainly take a bus to Yantai, but I found the options to be quite limited.

When heading to the 4th floor, there's an elevator available,
You'll find getting around super easy!

Once you reach the 4th floor, just head straight!
It's about a 3-minute walk.

When you arrive, they'll check your baggage and ID.
As international travelers, we'll need to show our passports.
(Passports don't scan at the automated gates, so
make sure to show your passport to a staff member!)

Once you're cleared, make your way to the waiting room and
double-check the timetable on the big display screen, then you're good to go!

As your boarding time approaches, you'll likely see a long
queue forming in front of the display board.
Since we're using passports, you absolutely need to head towards the staff-attended counter
and show your passport to get through!

It was time to bid farewell to Weihai.
Traveling between cities by high-speed train truly made me feel like a local, which was incredibly exciting!

When your train pulls in, you'll see a lot of people disembarking.
Be sure to carefully confirm your train number
and wait at the front of the line.

And for just ~$2, the interior was surprisingly clean!
The seats were so comfortable, which was a huge plus.

We arrived at Muping Station in a flash, just 14 minutes later, so be ready to disembark almost as soon as you board!
⭐We're at Muping Station! Next stop: Yantai! |

Once you get off, just head downstairs.
If you're unsure, no worries – simply follow the crowd.
Everyone exits through the same gate anyway!

When you're taking a high-speed train in China,
always make your way to the staff-attended counter.

Simply show your passport, and you'll sail right through.
No baggage inspection here!

Now that we've arrived at Muping Station (牟平站),
let's hop into a DiDi taxi to get to Yantai.

From the exit, walk straight for about 50 meters,
then turn right, and you'll find the designated DiDi taxi pickup zone.

We quickly hailed a DiDi taxi and were off to Yantai.
The ride to Yantai's city center took about 40 minutes and
cost 74.70 yuan – something to keep in mind for your budget!
3. Reflecting on Our Adventure
Initially, I was a bit worried that the passport and baggage checks
might make the process complicated.
But once we actually went through it, I realized the signage was clearly labeled, even in Korean,
and the staff members simply checked our passports,
making the whole experience much smoother than I anticipated.
From Weihai North Station to Muping Station by train took a swift
14 minutes, and then another 40 minutes by DiDi taxi to Yantai
city center. It was perfectly sufficient!
Even without a direct train, this route turned out to be quite
convenient and comfortable.
If you're planning to travel from Weihai to Yantai,
I wholeheartedly recommend this route!
