Recommended Domestic Travel Destination for Late November
Why Tongyeong is a Must-Visit
✔️ Even in late November, the autumn leaves often haven't fully fallen, making it perfect for enjoying a lingering fall atmosphere.
✔️ Budget-friendly accommodation costs, ideal for solo travelers.
✔️ Plenty of wonderful places to explore independently.
✔️ Explore the surrounding islands, and you can easily fill a rich and memorable 2-night, 3-day itinerary.

Tongyeong is about a 4-hour bus ride from Seoul (서울).
Part of its charm is that it's primarily accessible by bus, not by train,
because having to truly commit to the journey makes it feel even more like a real adventure.
Plus, the fun of stopping at a rest area midway to grab some snacks is always a bonus!
* You can depart from Dongseoul Terminal (동서울터미널), Gyeongbu Terminal (경부터미널), or Nambu Terminal (남부터미널).

Even when I visited in late November, the ginkgo leaves were still vibrant,
I went anticipating a winter escape,
but I unexpectedly stumbled upon a lingering autumn charm.
If your busy routine kept you from fully enjoying autumn,
Tongyeong is the perfect recommendation for you.
The reasons why Tongyeong shines as a solo travel destination are
its affordable accommodation and the abundance of fantastic places to visit alone.
* Details on sights, activities, and food can be found further down in the post *
What's truly remarkable is the accommodation cost,
a double room in a guesthouse, complete with its own private bathroom,
costs only ₩60,000-₩70,000 (~$45-~$52) per night, even on a weekend!
Beyond guesthouses, Tongyeong generally offers quite affordable accommodation,
making it a huge plus for a stress-free 2-night, 3-day trip! : )

Even though Tongyeong's city center might seem small, a 2-night, 3-day trip here is far from boring, and that's because
it's surrounded by a myriad of beautiful islands.
Hansando (한산도), Yeonhwado (연화도), Yokjido (욕지도), Somaemuldo (소매물도), and more...
Tongyeong offers the unique opportunity to explore these incredible islands,
many of which would be hard to reach on a day trip unless you lived nearby, making Tongyeong your perfect base for day excursions.
Sights & Activities to Enjoy

Seopirang (서피랑), where you can take in panoramic views of Tongyeong.
'Pirang' is a local dialect word meaning 'slope' or 'hillside',
and is home to Seoporru (서포루), a pavilion that was once demolished during the Japanese colonial period and later beautifully restored.
The climb isn't long at all,
and you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Tongyeong's open sea, instantly refreshing your soul! : )

The Jeon Hyuck-lim Art Museum (전혁림 미술관) is a captivating space, converted from the actual home of renowned painter Jeon Hyuck-lim.
While internal photography is restricted, so I don't have photos to share, it's
a wonderful space for quiet contemplation and art appreciation, especially for solo visitors.
What's more, admission is free!
For context, artist Jeon Hyuck-lim's is such a significant work that it's actually painted on a bridge,
a testament to its importance to the people of Tongyeong, making it well worth seeking out.
* You can see in front of 'Play Ball in Tongyeong (플레이볼인 통영)'.

A rare independent bookstore to find in a small provincial city: Namhaeui Bomnal (남해의 봄날)
Here, you can browse a diverse collection of books that you wouldn't typically find in a regular bookstore, including Blind Books and Blind Cards (which contain poetry), as well as books about local life and Tongyeong.
It's located right next to the Jeon Hyuck Lim Museum (전혁림 미술관), so I highly recommend visiting both together!

If you walk down from Namhaeui Bomnal towards Tongyeong Bridge (통영대교), you'll discover a different view of Gangguan Port (강구항) and Tongyeong Bridge than what you see from Seopirang (서피랑) : )
You could take a bus down, but since this was the most scenic route in Tongyeong, I recommend taking a leisurely stroll if you have the time.
* It takes about 20-30 minutes *

Hansando (한산도), an island closer than others near Tongyeong, where you can feel the spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.
You can explore the waters where the Great Battle of Hansan took place, visit Jeseungdang (제승당) where Admiral Yi Sun-sin lived, and even see the spot where he practiced archery.
When I visited in late November, the ginkgo trees were beautifully colored, and with fewer visitors, it was perfect for quietly enjoying the autumn scenery.
* Takes about 30 minutes one way, Jeseungdang admission is free *

Cafes & Restaurants

Tongyeong Babjip Gaon (통영밥집가온), famous for its 'sotbap' (stone pot rice), is conveniently located for lunch right after you arrive in Tongyeong and head towards Gangguan Port.
Sotbap is great for solo dining, plus the side dishes are generous and the rice simply tastes delicious. If you're a fan of Korean food like me, I highly recommend it.

Sammundang Coffee Roaster (삼문당커피로스터), where I went two days in a row because the coffee was so good. Situated on a hill, it offers beautiful views from the window, and its vintage interior is perfect for a quiet moment of reading alone.
If you go to Sammundang Coffee Roaster (삼문당커피로스터), the owner personally brews
hand-drip coffee, which I highly recommend trying!

Tongyeong Beer (통영맥주), a craft beer pub in Tongyeong with a public bathhouse concept
Many features from its time as a public bathhouse remain,
and it's fun how they use items like scrub towels and bathhouse keys as decor.
A 500ml craft beer is only ₩4,900 (~$4),
and it even tastes great, making it a place I'd love to revisit!

Hunmyeonok (훈면옥), located in Seopho Market (서호시장) right in front of Tongyeong Port
Although it's a small shop inside the market, it's actually a comfortable place for solo dining.
You can enjoy Tongyeong-style namul-bap with seaweed and refreshing noodles
at an affordable price.
It's especially great for a morning meal and to soothe a hangover : )

Personally, for a 2-night, 3-day trip, it feels a bit disappointing if the destination is too close.
Having a bit of distance actually makes it feel more like a real getaway!
In that sense, for those looking for domestic travel destinations in November,
especially those who can take a 2-night, 3-day trip at the end of November,
I've introduced Tongyeong.
The city isn't too big, making it great for solo travel,
and it's a place where you can make the most of a 2-night, 3-day trip.
If you're sad to see autumn end, I highly recommend paying a visit : )
