However, I often find myself drawn to quieter, more intimate spots rather than the large, bustling establishments. That's why I frequently visit Cafe Madang, nestled conveniently near Gangguan Port.

This unique cafe is a reimagining of a 120-year-old "Jeoksan House" (a term referring to Japanese colonial-era architecture), giving it a distinctive exterior. Plus, it's wonderfully pet-friendly!

Its prime location, close to both Gangguan Port and Jungang Market, makes it an ideal retreat for a relaxing break during your Tongyeong travels.

Cafe Madang is ideally situated near Gangguan Port and Jungang Traditional Market.

For parking, you have two convenient options nearby: the Jungang Traditional Market Public Parking Lot and the Tongjeyeong Paid Parking Lot.

If you choose the Jungang Traditional Market parking and make a purchase at the market, you can receive a parking discount coupon, granting you 50% off parking fees for up to 3 hours.

From the moment you approach, the entrance is densely packed with lush potted plants, making it feel less like a typical cafe and more like a miniature botanical garden.

As someone with a less-than-green thumb, I'm always so impressed by places that manage to keep so many plants thriving!

Cafe Madang is said to be a space thoughtfully reimagined from the owner's childhood home – a historic 120-year-old Jeoksan House.

The space beautifully preserves the original structure of the old house, enhanced with an abundance of plants and charming decor, giving it an even more authentic retro vibe!

Upon entering the cafe, you'll find it divided into two main areas: the indoor "house" space and a "courtyard-like" outdoor area.

Don't let the name "courtyard" mislead you – this "outdoor" section is actually enclosed and air-conditioned, ensuring it's perfectly cool and comfortable year-round!

The menu features a delightful array of beverages, including various coffees, refreshing smoothies, and a selection of desserts and cakes.

While not pictured, the back page of the menu also offered alcoholic options like beer.

We opted for two Iced Americanos and a slice of sweet pumpkin cake.

The coffee was perfectly fine, and while the cake was enjoyable, I found it to be fairly standard.

The cafe's interior is thoughtfully divided into the main house area and the courtyard space, each offering a distinct ambiance.

Within the main area, you'll find traditional table seating, as well as a cozy five-person section where you remove your shoes before entering – a lovely touch reminiscent of traditional Korean homes.

The quiet atmosphere makes it an excellent spot for reading a book or enjoying a relaxed conversation with friends.

The cafe is adorned with a treasure trove of charming decorative items.

We were told these were collected by the owner's mother, and there are so many adorable and quaint pieces that add to the cafe's unique character.

Among the seating options in the courtyard area, this particular spot stood out as especially beautiful!

It would be a great choice if you're visiting alone, and it's definitely a prime location for some fantastic photos if you have someone to snap them for you.

The restroom is co-ed, but despite that, it was impeccably clean.

This makes perfect sense, given how the owner constantly tends to the plants and tidies up – they truly don't stop!

Right next to the cafe, you'll find the popular "I ♥ TY" sign, a famous photo spot for travelers seeking a unique souvenir shot – definitely worth a quick stop for a picture!
