Train Types: G-Train vs. C-Train vs. D-Train

There are three main types of trains running between Tianjin and Beijing.

Also, Tianjin has several stations: Tianjin Station, Tianjin West, Tianjin North, and Tianjin South,

while Beijing has Beijing East, West, South, North, Chaoyang, Daxing, and Fengtai.

Make sure you double-check and book the exact starting and ending stations you need!​

✔️ The fastest is the direct C-Train (Intercity High-speed), taking just 32 minutes

✔️ Prices are identical for both G and C

The C-Train has fewer stops than the G-Train and runs directly between Tianjin and Beijing,

making it the absolute quickest way to travel between the two cities.

However, since G-Trains usually stop only once along the way,

they are a perfectly fine alternative if the C-Trains are sold out.

(Avoid D-Trains as they take a detour and make too many stops!)

How to Board a Train at Tianjin Station

Once you've booked your ticket, boarding the train to Beijing is actually way simpler than you might think!​

​

1. Security Screening

Chinese train stations are famous for having airport-level security.

First your luggage goes through the scanner, followed by a passport check~

​

For travelers with foreign passports, after the bag check, do NOT go through the automatic turnstiles (X). Head to the manual check counter on the left (indicated by the arrow) to have staff manually verify your identity.

Please note that items containing alcohol (like sprays), knives, or scissors might be confiscated!

(We tried to bring mosquito repellent, but it got confiscated... They are pretty strict about this.)

Once you pass security, take the escalator upstairs.

2. Waiting in the Station: Gates open about 15 minutes before departure

Tianjin Railway Station is quite spacious, so I highly recommend arriving with plenty of time to spare.

Inside the station, you'll find shops selling local Tianjin snacks like Mahua (fried dough twists), a Starbucks, and Mr. Lee Beef Noodle.

You can find your designated gate by checking the 'Gate' info in your Trip.com booking details,

and then just hang out until boarding begins!

3. Gates Open: Enter after passport verification

Boarding starts about 15 minutes before departure, and people will start lining up.

At this point, your ID (passport) is checked/scanned instead of a ticket, and

As expected, foreigners cannot use the automatic gates, but must have their tickets manually checked by staff, so be sure to line up in the staff lane!

The trains actually look quite similar to the KTX trains at Seoul Station or Yongsan Station!

4. Boarding the Train

The carriage numbers are written in massive print,

making it super easy to find your car.

The train itself was clean, modern, and very comfortable!

Since it's a bullet train, everything felt brand new.

Even though we were cruising at over 200 km/h, there was absolutely no discomfort—it felt just like a smooth daily subway commute.

✔️ From my experience riding it multiple times, the train always actually departed 2 minutes before the scheduled time! Make sure you are not late and give yourself plenty of time to board.

Arriving at Beijing South Railway Station: Didi & Ride-Hailing Pickup Zone

We arrived at Beijing South Railway Station in just 32 minutes!

Beijing South Station (北京南站) is massive,

so finding the exit can be a bit confusing if it's your first time.

If you want to catch a ride-hailing app like Didi, after getting off,

just follow the "网约车 E-hailing" signs inside the station.

✔️ You can head to P1, P2, or P4, but make sure to select the exact parking lot (P) on your Didi app so your driver knows exactly where to find you!

✔️ Note that the regular taxi stands and the Didi pickup zones are completely separate!

If you walk straight, there is a dedicated waiting area for Didi passengers,

and if you scan the QR code on the screen and enter your Didi license plate number, it assigns you a precise parking spot.

But as I was trying to register that, my driver called me, so we just figured it out over the phone and I hopped in...

✔️ Try to avoid getting into cars of people who approach you directly claiming to be Didi drivers!
