Autumn in Piedmont, Italy: My Review of Tenuta Bussia
🍂 Autumn Truffle Season: A Journey to Barolo
Autumn in Piedmont, Italy is just around the corner,
and with it, the highly anticipated white truffle season begins!
In Alba, located right next to Barolo,
the world-famous Alba White Truffle Fair
(Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba) is held every October and November,
drawing foodies and gourmands from all over the globe.
Imagine fresh truffle pasta paired with a glass of robust Barolo wine,
or a rich poached egg risotto generously shaved with fresh truffles...
It was an absolutely unforgettable culinary experience!
Accommodations book up incredibly fast during the festival period,
so I highly recommend booking yours well in advance!
The place I stayed during my summer trip, 'Tenuta Bussia,'
is the perfect base for this kind of gourmet getaway.
Since it's an agriturismo that features
its own winery, spa, and swimming pool,
returning in autumn would be the absolute ultimate way
to experience the truffle and wine pairing.

✅ Dates
Every weekend from October 11 to December 8, 2025
The main Truffle Market takes place in the heart of Alba at the Cortile della Maddalena.
Along with the market, there are shows, performances, art exhibitions,
kids' workshops, meetings with Michelin-starred chefs, and so much more.
🛋 The Room & Terrace
The room I stayed in was newly renovated and fresh,
and every single detail, from the ceiling finishes
to the furniture, felt incredibly luxurious.
With thoughtful touches like a SMEG coffee machine, elegant wine glasses,
and even dedicated slippers for the pool,
there were so many lovely surprises during my stay.
But the real highlight was definitely the terrace .
Looking out, Barolo’s endless vineyards stretched before us,
and by evening, looking down at the illuminated pool
with a glass of local wine was pure bliss.
🏊 Pool & Spa
📌 Pool
No time limits—open for you to enjoy anytime
Swim alongside sweeping views of Barolo’s vineyards
During our July visit, the water was perfectly warm.
Since there are only 7 rooms in the hotel, it felt like our own private pool!
Please note that pool operation is seasonal.
📌 Spa & Sauna
Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Equipped with a mini-spa, jacuzzi, and dry sauna
A private, healing space where you can unwind to soft, quiet music.
The sauna, in particular, uses the traditional method of pouring water over hot stones,
which makes the temperature rise beautifully.
I loved it so much that I had to squeeze in one last visit right before checking out.
🍞 Breakfast
Breakfast is simple, focusing on fresh bread, jams, and seasonal fruits,
but enjoying it on the terrace while gazing out
over the vast vineyards of Barolo was an incredibly special experience.
The coffee was top-notch too, making it the perfect way
to kick off every morning on a high note.

🍷 Recommended Winery Tours & Tasting Routes
You simply can't visit Barolo without experiencing
a winery tour and tasting!
Here’s a curated list based on the wineries I actually visited and experienced firsthand.
1. Pira (Luigi Pira)
Location: Serralunga d’Alba
A small, family-run winery that crafts Barolo wines
using deeply traditional methods.
You get to taste their single-vineyard Barolos firsthand,
which are known for their bold structure and incredible aging potential.
While small in scale, it was the absolute best place to soak in an authentic, local vibe.

2. G.D. Vajra
Location: Vergne Village, near Barolo
Famous for producing some of the most refined
and elegant styles of wine in the Barolo region.
Their tours are highly organized and welcoming,
offering a chance to taste a wonderful variety of labels.
Their "Albe" is incredibly famous,
ranking 9th in Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2024! haha
We just popped in by car without a reservation,
and unfortunately, our timing didn't align for a full tour,
so we could only manage a quick tasting of 2 or 3 glasses.
I was so bummed!
But even for a short drop-in, they welcomed us so warmly
that I definitely want to book a full tour next time I get the chance.
It's also a fantastic place for beginners because you can experience
not only Nebbiolo but also Dolcetto, Barbera, and more.
3. Gaja (Gaia Gaja, Piedmont)
Location: Barbaresco (about a 30-minute drive from Barolo)
This is literally a legend of Italian wine .
Regular reservations aren't accepted; visits are only possible for donors or by special invitation .
(From my research, a donation of €300 / approx. $326 or more is required)
Although it's hard to get inside,
you can feel its unparalleled presence just by being in the neighborhood.
4. Massolino
Location: Heart of Serralunga d’Alba
A historic winery with a heritage dating back to 1896.
With a beautifully appointed tasting room,
it's a very welcoming and comfortable spot for anyone to visit.
Their single-vineyard labels, like Barolo 'Margheria'
and 'Vigna Rionda', were particularly impressive.
We ended up buying some wine at Massolino too,
and it's currently resting safely in our wine cellar at home! haha
5. Borgogno
Location: Heart of Barolo Village
Established in 1761, making it one of the
oldest wineries in the Barolo region.
Located right in the center of town, the accessibility is fantastic.
The underground cellar tour is a major highlight—
seeing rows and rows of historic vintages quietly aging
was an absolutely spectacular sight.
It gets quite crowded with tourists, so booking in advance is a must!
6. Vietti (Castiglione Falletto)
Location: Heart of Castiglione Falletto village
A world-renowned winery representing Barolo,
famously known as a pioneer of single-vineyard Barolo.
In Korea, it's famous as one of the 'Top 3 Moscatos,'
and the wine labels are absolutely stunning.
By beautifully combining traditional methods with modern styles,
it's a place where you can experience wines that are both elegant and powerful.
✨ Quick Summary
Pira → Small family-run, authentic local vibe
G.D. Vajra → Trendy and diverse wine tasting experiences
Gaja → Collector/Patron-only, legendary winery
Massolino → Rich in heritage and highly accessible winery
Borgogno → Located in downtown Barolo, cellar tour highly recommended
