For fans of the beloved Taiwanese drama, 'Someday or One Day' (Shang Jian Ni), a trip to Tainan isn't complete without visiting its iconic filming locations. Among them, the pot noodle shop, Xian Qing Ming Pin Wu, stands out as a must-try. This is where the three friends from Fengnan High School famously enjoyed their delicious noodles, making it a pilgrimage site for drama enthusiasts.
What makes Xian Qing Ming Pin Wu even better is its early opening hours. For those planning a day trip to Tainan, like I did, it's the perfect first stop to fuel up for a day of exploration.

Waiting at the 'Someday or One Day' Noodle Shop

Upon arriving in Tainan, we took bus number 32 from Tainan HSR Station. After getting off at the Minghe Park stop, it was about a 9-minute walk to Xian Qing Ming Pin Wu. We arrived around 11:20 AM and were able to find seats inside immediately, though there were already people enjoying their meals.

The restaurant offers both indoor seating and a charming outdoor patio area. Be aware that the indoor area can get quite warm, especially near the kitchen where hot meals are constantly being prepared. There's no air conditioning inside, so if it's not scorching hot outside, the outdoor seating might actually be the cooler and more comfortable option!

While we didn't experience a wait, a line started forming outside just a few minutes after we arrived, with 2-3 groups waiting. The queue continued even as we finished our meal and left. This really shows that it's not just a 'Someday or One Day' filming location, but also a popular local eatery consistently sought out by residents.
How to Order at Xian Qing Ming Pin Wu

My sister and I both ordered the signature Hot Pot Egg Noodles. In hindsight, I wish we had tried different dishes to share and experience more of the menu! I think we were just so focused on trying the drama's famous dish that we didn't want to risk ordering something unfamiliar.

Ordering is done at the counter, not at your table. Simply head over to the designated ordering area and pay in cash. Don't expect your food to arrive instantly; we waited a comfortable 20 minutes for our dishes.

Xian Qing Ming Pin Wu Pot Noodle Review

Each table was equipped with pepper and chili powder. I asked about black vinegar, hoping to recreate Li Ziwei's move from 'Someday or One Day,' but they didn't have any!

Honestly, it was much more delicious than I expected! At first glance, it looked like a simple pot noodle dish, but the broth was incredibly savory and comforting. It's the kind of subtle flavor that keeps you coming back for more.

Since we don't usually eat this type of pot noodle, it's hard to give an exact flavor comparison, but both my sister and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We even talked about how good it was as we wrapped up our Taiwan trip!

The noodles themselves weren't the typical thick udon, but a lighter, more delicate egg noodle that was easy to eat. It made for a perfect breakfast or early lunch. It's not a flashy or overly spicy dish, but a truly memorable local meal that you'll keep thinking about. Inside, you'll find egg, cabbage, and fish cake.

My sister added chili powder and pepper to hers, and even with the added seasoning, she noted that the broth remained flavorful without becoming overly spicy. Whether you prefer it plain or with a little kick from pepper or chili powder, it's delicious either way.

The prices are incredibly reasonable, and its early opening hours make it an ideal first stop for a Tainan day trip. On a future visit, I'd definitely try other noodle varieties, toast, and drinks from their menu.
