When you search for Tainan travel, you'll find
so many stories about how it's just as rich in delicious food as Taipei, right?
Among them, I recently visited the Tainan Du Hsiao Yueh main branch,
famous for its long history and iconic Dan Zai Noodles.
My feast included Dan Zai Noodles, Lu Rou Fan (braised pork rice), shrimp rolls,
and of course, Taiwanese beer!
I'm excited to share my delicious experience with you.
Du Hsiao Yueh, Tainan

📍 Location
No. 16號, Jhongjheng Rd, Yonghua Village, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700

📍 Operating Hours
Daily 11:00 AM - 8:30 PM
When you search on Google Maps,
this is the spot that comes up as the Tainan Du Hsiao Yueh Main Branch!
Du Hsiao Yueh Interior

As soon as you step inside, you can immediately witness
Du Hsiao Yueh's signature noodle-making process!

The first floor has the cashier and about 2-3 tables, but
we were guided upstairs to the second floor.

I visited after lunchtime, during that sweet spot
before dinner rush, so we got in right away with no waiting!
Du Hsiao Yueh Menu & How to Order

Inside the restaurant, you'll find regular menus,
and you can also order conveniently via the QR code on your table.

While there weren't any staff members who could communicate in Korean,
the QR code menu supports Korean,
making the ordering process super easy.
With menu photos and prices clearly displayed,
it was a breeze to pick out what we wanted, even without knowing Chinese.
The first round of dishes was so good, but the portions were a bit small,
so we ended up ordering another serving of shrimp rolls!

The total amount from both receipts was
495 TWD.
Card payment is available.
Dan Zai Noodles, Lu Rou Fan, and Shrimp Rolls Review

For two of us, we enjoyed:
Dan Zai Noodles (1 order)
Lu Rou Fan (1 order)
Shrimp Rolls (1 order)
Taiwanese Beer (2 bottles)
To be honest, we weren't even super hungry to begin with,
This is a famous Tainan restaurant, so I visited!

Initially, I only ordered one Danzai Mian, one Lu Rou Fan, and one bottle of beer...
...but they were so tiny! ^^
So I ordered shrimp rolls too!
Because I read on some blog post that
you absolutely *have* to try the shrimp rolls, right? 😉

✔️ Danzai Mian - 60 Taiwan Dollars
Danzai Mian, the signature dish of Du Hsiao Yueh,
I ordered with regular noodles.
The broth and noodles are topped with minced pork garnish and
a single shrimp.
It's not overly stimulating, rather light and clean, yet
thanks to the meat garnish, you can really taste the umami.

The noodles aren't too thick or heavy, so
I didn't feel bloated or heavy afterwards.
However, both the bowl and the portion size are quite small, so
ordering just one to make a full meal probably won't cut it.
It's best enjoyed as a light tasting dish among several other items,
a quintessential Tainan-style noodle dish, perhaps?!

✔️ Lu Rou Fan - 55 Taiwan Dollars
Lu Rou Fan, a Taiwanese-style braised pork rice bowl!
As someone who needs my rice, I ordered this rice bowl too.
It's finely minced braised pork served over rice.

The taste is exactly what you'd expect — in the best way!
It's savory and approachable, a flavor anyone can enjoy.

✔️ Fried Shrimp Rolls - 200 Taiwan Dollars
The shrimp rolls are quite a bit pricier than
the Danzai Mian or Lu Rou Fan!
They're fried to a golden crisp on the outside
and filled with minced shrimp inside.

Wow~! LOL!
The moment I tasted them, I knew they were an absolute must-order! ❗️
Even though they're fried, they don't feel greasy or heavy.
They're light, clean, and the umami of the shrimp really shines through, making them incredibly delicious, and
they pair perfectly with beer!
The sauce is delicious too.
✔️ Gold Medal Taiwan Beer - 90 Taiwan Dollars
And Gold Medal Taiwan Beer? Say no more, say no more!
The only downside is that one bottle is just 330ml ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
So I ordered two! 🤣
It went well with the Danzai Mian and Lu Rou Fan too, but
it truly shines with fried foods, of course!
Recommended: Du Hsiao Yueh, Tainan

Du Hsiao Yueh is a Tainan noodle shop that has been around since 1895
and is over 130 years old.
Besides Danzai Mian, Lu Rou Fan, and shrimp rolls,
they offer a wide variety of other Taiwanese dishes, so
it looked like a great place for several people to visit together and share many plates.
However, since the portions are generally small,
ordering just one menu item per person might not be enough?!
I recommend adding rice or a side dish to your Danzai Mian
and enjoying several items together.
Because of this, I don't feel the prices are particularly cheap.
Nevertheless, the food overall is
light, clean, and packed with umami, so
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal!
