Hearing the news that Sonobel Gyeongju changed to Sono Calm Gyeongju,

I went ahead and booked this place for my Gyeongju trip.

They spent a whopping ~$124 million on a complete renovation over about a year,

so I was curious, "Just how much could it have changed?"

When I went there myself, from the rooms to the amenities,

it had definitely transformed!

From Sonobel Gyeongju to Sono Calm Gyeongju

With the complete renovation of the former Sonobel Gyeongju,

it is now operating under the new name, Sono Calm Gyeongju.

The overall atmosphere, rather than the old resort feel,

now centers around black and brown tones,

giving it a much more calm and luxurious vibe, wouldn't you say?!

Instead of an overtly flashy decor,

it was impressive how they highlighted Gyeongju's unique tranquil and

calm ambiance.

In fact, the renewal concept was 'leisurely relaxation',

focusing on a space to rest rather than rushing to sightsee!

A Weekend Visit Where Even Check-in Wasn't Easy

They said room assignments start at 12 PM,

so I tried to hurry a bit, but before I knew it, it was past 3 PM 😂

There were a whopping 71 people waiting ahead of me... lol

Everyone was so incredibly diligent! 😂

Eventually, I got my room assigned after waiting for about 40 minutes.

If you're visiting on a weekend,

rather than arriving right at check-in time,

it might be a good idea to allow a little extra time.

Deluxe Suite A/B Room Comparison at a Glance

We visited as 3 adults,

and used the Deluxe Suite A View-Free room.

I imagine many people deliberate between A and B when choosing a room,

so let's do a quick comparison :)

If 3 adults are staying, like us, Suite A is also

worth considering,

but if you're thinking of a slightly larger space or two bathrooms,

Suite B definitely catches the eye 🤣 lol

There's a more significant difference in room size and configuration than one might expect,

so it's probably best to choose based on your travel party size

and the space you desire :)

Review of Deluxe Suite A View-Free Room

The room itself definitely gives off a recently renovated vibe.

With its overall wood tones and dark colors,

it creates a clean yet tranquil atmosphere.

Especially thanks to the view from the room and the floor-to-ceiling windows,

it felt surprisingly less stuffy than I expected.

(Even though it was a parking lot view, it was still lovely! Haha)

However, at 42.5㎡ (about 457 sq ft), it wasn't "super spacious!" for three adults.

Considering the beds, bathroom, and luggage,

it felt like just enough space for three people to comfortably get by!

It's a non-cooking room, so expect minimal amenities.

Since Deluxe Suite A is a non-cooking room,

it wasn't equipped with a wide variety of kitchenware.

If you're planning to have simple meals,

it's a good idea to check beforehand if you have all the necessary items you might need.

We actually needed a laundry drying rack, so we inquired at the front desk,

and they brought it right up to us!

However, since three adults were using the room,

having only one bathroom was a slight drawback. 😢

Why I Loved the Walking Environment Around the Accommodation

Personally, more than the room itself,

I was really captivated by the walking environment around the property.

Bohun Lake is right next to Sono Calm Gyeongju,

making it perfect for a leisurely morning stroll!

Even within the accommodation itself, there were spaces for walking,

which was lovely for a slow morning walk.

If you're looking for a trip that includes adequate relaxation time at your accommodation,

rather than just constantly hopping from one tourist spot to another, then this aspect might be quite appealing! Haha

Especially if you want to soak in a relaxed atmosphere during your Gyeongju trip,

make sure to explore the area around Bohun Lake! 🤍

Having Stayed Here Myself, I Recommend It To These Travelers:

Overall, I felt that Sono Calm Gyeongju is a perfect fit for travelers who prefer to relax comfortably at their accommodation,

rather than strictly adhering to a jam-packed sightseeing schedule!

While it was comfortable enough for three adults...

Next time, I'll definitely be looking for a more spacious room!
