Heading to Incheon Airport for an overseas getaway is always an exciting feeling!
For my recent trip to Kota Kinabalu, I decided to skip the traffic and take the AREX Express Train directly from Seoul Station.
Did you know you can actually drop off your luggage at the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal before you even board the train?
It's the ultimate hack for traveling hands-free.
Here is my full review of using the City Airport Terminal,
along with a neat trick to score discounted AREX tickets.

The City Airport Terminal is incredibly convenient,
located right on the B2 floor of Seoul Station.
Here, you can complete your flight check-in, drop your bags, and even clear outbound immigration for same-day international flights out of Incheon.
The facility operates from 05:20 AM to 07:00 PM.
Keep in mind the strict cut-off times: you must complete the process 3 hours before flights departing from Terminal 1, and 3 hours and 20 minutes before flights from Terminal 2.
Unfortunately, foreign airlines are not eligible for this service.
It's primarily for Korean full-service and low-cost carriers.
Also, note that some airlines exclude US-bound routes, so definitely double-check your airline's policy before you go!
The AREX Express Train is hands down the fastest way to get from central Seoul to Incheon Airport.
It runs non-stop, taking just 43 minutes to reach Terminal 1,
and 51 minutes to Terminal 2.
The standard adult fare is ~$10,
while tickets for children under 13, seniors over 65, and persons with disabilities are ~$7.
I highly recommend booking through Klook,
where you can snag an adult ticket for a discounted rate of just ~$9!
When you purchase your ticket on Klook,
you'll need to activate your reservation first.
Simply select your departure date and time,
and your digital ticket will be issued instantly.
Funny story: I actually messed up and booked the wrong date this time!
Thankfully, I visited the customer service desk right in front of the ticket gates,
and they kindly swapped it to my correct boarding time without any hassle.
To access the City Airport Terminal,
just scan your generated QR code at the turnstiles pictured above.
Once inside, you can proceed with your check-in and early immigration clearance.
A quick heads-up: if your flight isn't eligible for city check-in,
or if you arrive past the cut-off time for your terminal,
you won't be able to use the early immigration service either.
The train boarding platform is located deep underground on the B7 floor,
so taking the elevator is highly recommended.

The AREX train from Seoul Station isn't just about speed.
The true beauty of this service is the ability to complete your check-in and immigration early,
allowing you to breeze straight into the duty-free zone once you arrive at the airport.
It's a massive time-saver!
Plus, with reserved seating, you never have to worry about standing for an hour.
By dropping off your checked bags in the city,
you can enjoy a completely stress-free, lightweight commute.
If you've successfully completed the city check-in process,
you get to use the designated fast-track entrance at Incheon Airport—the same one used by flight crews and diplomats—to skip the massive security lines.
Confession time: I actually arrived at Seoul Station a bit too late on this trip,
so I missed the baggage drop window and had to lug my suitcases to the airport anyway. Learn from my mistake!
If the thought of navigating the airport commute with heavy bags stresses you out,
I cannot recommend the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal and AREX Express Train combo enough.
Knocking out your check-in, bag drop, and immigration before you even leave the city
saves you so much time and physical energy.
The comfortable reserved seats make the journey a breeze,
and when you apply the Klook discount, it's incredibly budget-friendly.

The operating hours for check-in at Seoul Station City Airport Terminal are from 05:20 to 19:00. For flights departing from Incheon Airport Terminal 1, check-in must be completed 3 hours before the flight's departure. For flights departing from Terminal 2, check-in must be completed 3 hours and 20 minutes before departure.
The AREX Express train takes 43 minutes from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport Terminal 1, and 51 minutes to Terminal 2. The adult fare is ~$9, but you can get a discounted price of ~$8 when booking through Klook.
