When you're exploring London, UK, and that caffeine craving hits, the notoriously high prices of cafes can make you think twice. Many times, I've just given up on my morning coffee rather than shell out a small fortune.
But then I discovered the 99 pence coffee at Pret A Manger, and suddenly, my morning brew became a guilt-free pleasure.
Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Pret A Manger, an incredibly affordable cafe chain that's a true lifesaver for budget-conscious travelers!

Operating Hours: Typically 5:30 AM - 8:00 PM (hours vary by location) Closed: Never Location: Numerous branches throughout London |
Pret A Manger is a ubiquitous chain across London, much like Starbucks or Costa Coffee here in the US. You'll find their branches on almost every street corner in central London.

A quick search around the Soho area alone will bring up nearly a dozen locations, so you're never far from one. They offer a great selection of fresh sandwiches and baked goods, making it an ideal spot for breakfast or a quick lunch. Plus, the incredibly affordable prices mean you can pop in without any hesitation.
The branch I visited was conveniently located next to the London Transport office, and I'll base my review on that experience.

This particular location was housed in a modern British-style building and even featured a few outdoor terrace seats, perfect for people-watching.

Inside, the decor was warm and inviting, with a palette of ivory and brown tones. There were about 20 tables, seating 2-4 people comfortably.

On the opposite side, you'll find a spacious display area showcasing a wide array of sandwiches, baked goods, and beverages. This layout prevents any feeling of crowding, even during peak hours.

I visited a little after 9 AM on a weekday, and it was buzzing with locals. Most were grabbing a quick sandwich for breakfast, highlighting Pret's role in the daily London routine.
Next, let's dive into the beverage menu and the selection of food items available.

Pret A Manger Menu Highlights
Filter Coffee 99 pence
Americano 3.4 pounds
Macchiato 2.7 pounds
Latte 3.8 pounds
Cappuccino 3.8 pounds
Flat White 3.8 pounds
Extra Shot 60 pence
Decaf Free
As you can see from the main coffee menu, the Filter Coffee is an incredible steal at just 99 pence, which is roughly ~$1! Even the Americano is relatively inexpensive at 3.4 pounds.

Beyond coffee, most bakery items are priced around 2.5 pounds, which is quite reasonable for a London cafe.

The hot bakery section features items that resemble bagel burgers, typically priced around 3-4 pounds.

Even the fruit cups, though a bit pricier at around 3 pounds, are a decent option for a light and healthy breakfast on the go.

Finally, as a cafe renowned for its sandwiches, Pret offers the most diverse selection in this category. Most sandwiches are priced around 5 pounds.
If you grab a sandwich and a filter coffee, you can enjoy a full meal for approximately 6 pounds. This is an incredibly good value for money in a city as expensive as London.
Since we visited specifically for our morning caffeine fix, we ordered a filter coffee and an iced Americano to try.

The filter coffee is only served hot, which was perfect for warming up on a chilly London morning. The taste was perfectly decent and reliable.

On the other hand, the iced Americano was a bit weaker, tasting like it only had a single shot. While 3.4 pounds for a single shot might seem a little pricey, it's actually a great value option for those who prefer a milder coffee.

I stumbled upon Pret A Manger by chance, drawn in by the 99 pence sign on their menu. In a city where prices can often be shocking, being able to get a caffeine boost for just a pound is a game-changer for budget travelers.
The cafe itself offers a modern and comfortable atmosphere, and considering London's cost of living, both the sandwiches and coffee provide excellent value. It's the perfect spot for a quick and affordable meal or snack.
I highly recommend keeping Pret A Manger in mind for your 2026 London trip to help keep your food expenses in check!
