Prague 3-Day Travel Highlights: Full Itinerary |
My Eastern European adventure saw me traveling from Salzburg, through the charming Český Krumlov, before arriving in Prague.

Having explored it myself, I found this 3-day itinerary worked perfectly for maximizing my time:
✔️ Charles Bridge, Strahov Monastery, and Prague Castle are best grouped together on one day.
✔️ Havel Market and the Astronomical Clock flow perfectly into an Old Town stroll.
✔️ Dedicate your final day to Vyšehrad and some souvenir shopping, timing it with your departure.
Date | Actual Itinerary |
Day 1 | Arrive 17:40 → Check into BOOKQUET → Kozlovna for dinner |
Day 2 | Charles Bridge → Strahov Monastery → Prague Castle → Dinner |
Day 3 | Havel Market & Astronomical Clock → Vyšehrad → Shopping & Dinner → Train around 22:00 |
Prague boasts a truly diverse array of attractions, and you'll need a transport ticket to navigate it all efficiently. Consider looking into a Visitor Pass to make your travels seamless.
What's more, during its validity, the Visitor Pass covers metro, trams, city buses, trolleybuses, ferries, as well as airport transfers including the Airport Express (AE)!

Day 1 | Late Arrival, Check-in & Dinner |
On this day, I set off from Salzburg, had a quick, delightful visit to Český Krumlov, and arrived in Prague around 5:40 PM.
Date | Actual Itinerary |
Day 1 | Arrive 17:40 → Check into BOOKQUET → Kozlovna for dinner |
Around 6 PM, I checked into Hotel BOOKQUET,
and then around 7 PM, I headed out again for dinner at Kozlovna.

Day 2 | Charles Bridge · Strahov · Prague Castle |
Date | Actual Itinerary |
Day 2 | Charles Bridge → Strahov Monastery → Prague Castle → Dinner |
On the second day, we kicked things off at Charles Bridge,
then explored Strahov Monastery and Prague Castle.
The key to this day's plan wasn't just fitting in a lot of sights,
but rather moving in one direction.

Instead of constantly going back and forth between the Old Town and Prague Castle,
after crossing Charles Bridge, we grouped Strahov and Prague Castle together
to explore them on the same day.

We wrapped up the second day with a delicious dinner and a refreshing drink.
(Seriously, Czech beer is out of this world!)

If you're planning to explore the interior of Prague Castle,
it's a good idea to check the closing times first.
✔️ Operating Hours for Key Historical Buildings
April–October: 09:00–17:00, November–March: 09:00–16:00
St. Vitus Cathedral has different opening hours on Sundays,
so please check according to your visit date.

Day 3 | Old Town · Vyšehrad · Shopping |
Date | Actual Itinerary |
Day 3 | Havel's Market · Astronomical Clock → Vyšehrad → Shopping · Dinner → Train around 10 PM |
On the last day, we started by exploring Havel's Market.
After visiting Havel's Market, if you move on to the Astronomical Clock and the square,
you can seamlessly connect these sights within the same area.

At the Astronomical Clock, we caught the hourly performance.
Rather than planning Havel's Market and the Astronomical Clock
as separate stops,
I recommend including them together as part of an Old Town walking tour.

Afterward, we headed to Vyšehrad and walked along the city walls,
enjoying the views towards Prague Castle.

Vyšehrad is a bit removed from the Old Town,
and there's a fair bit of walking involved once you're inside.
So, separately from your Old Town itinerary,
it's a good idea to factor in travel time as well.

After Vyšehrad, we explored the shopping streets around Prague District 4,
before heading back to the Old Town.

For our final dinner, we ate at Kozlovna,
and I departed by train around 10 PM.

Mini's Planning Pointers |
1. Group by Location |
Charles Bridge, Strahov Monastery, and Prague Castle were grouped together as they're all in the castle area,
while Havel's Market and the Astronomical Clock
were combined into the Old Town itinerary.
Instead of planning each attraction individually,
it's much easier to plan your itinerary if you decide on a general area to explore each day.
2. Focus on Actual Sightseeing Hours, Not Just Accommodation Nights |
I arrived around 5:40 PM on the first day
and departed Prague around 10 PM on the last day.
Thanks to this, I was able to make relatively full use of my time
right up until the very last day.
Even if it's the same 2-night, 3-day trip, if your departure from Prague is in the afternoon,
you'll need to shorten your itinerary for the third day.
3. Independent Travel vs. City Tour: How to Choose |
If you want the freedom to spend time taking photos or shopping, then choose independent travel,
but if you prefer to hear detailed explanations about attractions
and want to save time planning your routes,
then compare city tours.
Final Thoughts |
Although I arrived late on the first day for my 2-night, 3-day Prague trip,
it turned out to be a wonderfully fulfilling itinerary for me,
focusing on all the main attractions.
If your itinerary is packed and planning your route feels overwhelming,
utilizing a city tour that includes major attractions and guided explanations
might be a fantastic option!
