Hello, explorers!
It's Mini, back from my annual leave adventure.
I've just returned from experiencing the incredible
Prague Astronomical Clock's hourly performance firsthand in the Old Town Square!
Today, I'll share all the essential details: when to catch the hourly show, how much the observation deck costs,
and other fantastic places to explore nearby.

Prague Astronomical Clock Location and Essential Information |
The Prague Astronomical Clock is
nestled on the exterior wall of the Old Town Hall, right in the heart of Old Town Square.
If you're exploring the Old Town, you'll naturally stumble upon this iconic Prague landmark –
no special detour needed!
The clock's basic mechanism was crafted before 1410,
making it a truly historic marvel that has graced the Old Town Hall, keeping time for over 600 years.

Now, here's a common point of confusion to clear up.
Watching the Astronomical Clock and
its hourly performance from the square? Absolutely FREE!

However, admission is required to explore
the interior of the Old Town Hall, where the Astronomical Clock is housed, and
to ascend the Tower Observation Deck.

Up close, you'll notice two circular dials:
the upper dial displays the time and astronomical information,
and the lower dial is the calendar.
The intricate golden ornaments and individual figurines are even more spectacular
when viewed up close than from afar, so I highly recommend taking your time to admire them before or after the performance.

Astronomical Clock Hourly Performance Times |
What I was most eager to witness here was the iconic hourly performance.
According to the official Prague Tourist Information,
the Twelve Apostles emerge every hour, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
As the hour strikes, two windows above the clock open, and
the figures of the Twelve Apostles make their appearance one by one.

The performance kicks off with the Skeleton figure ringing a bell, and
concludes with a rooster crowing, followed by the chime of the clock.
When I visited, as the hour approached,
a sizable crowd gathered in front of the Astronomical Clock.
If you're hoping to capture some amazing photos or videos from the front,
I'd suggest arriving a little bit early rather than right on the dot.

Mini's Planning Tips |
1. Plan Your Itinerary Around the Top of the Hour |
If, like me, you're not going up to the observation deck
and only want to see the performance and Old Town Square,
I recommend arriving about 10 to 15 minutes before the top of the hour
to watch the performance and then take a full stroll around the square.
2. Utilize Morning First-Hour Discounts for the Observation Deck |
If you want to go up to the observation deck,
combine the morning first-hour discount with the hourly performance.
3. Continue Towards Charles Bridge After Your Visit |
After exploring the Astronomical Clock and Old Town Square,
it's great for seamless travel to continue towards Clementinum or Charles Bridge,
without retracing your steps.
Final Thoughts |
If you're planning a trip to Prague's Old Town,
first decide on the exact hour you want to see the Astronomical Clock,
then build your surrounding itinerary around it.
By combining the Astronomical Clock with Old Town Square,
you'll be able to efficiently explore Prague's key attractions
even with limited time.
