Prague public transport tickets: Which one should you buy?
I personally used the PID app during my Prague adventure, and it was a game-changer.
I'm excited to share all the essentials, from the latest fares as of October 2026 to how to purchase tickets as a non-member, activation tips, and even the nitty-gritty of baggage regulations. Let's dive in!

Prague Public Transport Fares & Choosing Your Pass |
For adults, here are the prices as of 2026:
Validity | PID App | Paper Ticket |
30 minutes | 36 CZK | 39 CZK |
90 minutes | 46 CZK | 50 CZK |
24 hours | 140 CZK | 150 CZK |
72 hours | 340 CZK | 350 CZK |
The PID app
is 3-10 CZK cheaper than paper tickets!
If you're planning leisurely strolls around the Old Town, the 30-minute or 90-minute tickets might be perfect. But for those adventurous days with lots of sightseeing, like exploring Prague Castle, definitely compare these with the 24-hour ticket to find your best value!
Snagging Your PID App Tickets Without Registration |
The PID Lítačka app
allows you to purchase tickets without needing to register.

① On the login screen, select 'Skip'

② Save the non-member code

③ My tickets → Buy a ticket

④ Prague → Select duration and quantity

⑤ Select activation method → Pay by card or Apple Pay

A pro tip: this non-member code might not pop up again, so make sure to save it the very first time you see it!
How to Activate & Get Your Ticket Checked |
There are three ways to activate your ticket:
Later manually means activating it yourself later
Immediately after purchase means right after payment
At a specific time means specifying a start time

The most important thing is that
you cannot use it immediately after activation.
It becomes valid only after 1 minute has passed since activation.
For trams and buses, check the ticket's validity before boarding.
For the subway, check before entering the paid area.
Confirm your ticket is valid!

An internet connection is also required for purchase and activation.
I didn't encounter any ticket inspectors during my trip.
If you are checked, simply show your valid ticket QR code from the app,
and remember, the fine for an invalid ticket is a basic 2,000 CZK.
Luggage, Seniors, and Airport Transfers |
Luggage within 25 x 45 x 70 cm is free.
If your luggage exceeds these dimensions,
you'll need to purchase an additional 'Luggage 23 CZK' ticket in the app.

24 and 72-hour tickets include one piece of luggage or one animal for free,
but PID trains are an exception.
A Senior fare applies to those aged 60-64,
and those 65 and over can use regular public transport within Prague
for free.
Make sure to carry your passport for age verification.

While your ticket can be used on regular trams, buses, and the metro,
lines K, 41, 42, and
the Airport Express (AE) require separate fares.

Mini's Top Planning Tips |
1. Install the app and save your non-member code before departure |
Rather than installing it for the first time once you arrive,
it's much more convenient to check the app screen once before you depart.
2. Compare timed tickets according to your itinerary |
Instead of just buying a 72-hour ticket,
first consider if you'll be walking a lot or moving around a lot.
3. Activate before boarding and confirm validity status |
Just because you've paid doesn't mean you can use it immediately.
After activation and 1 minute has passed, confirm that it's in a valid state
before you start your journey.
Final Thoughts |
If you don't move around much, consider 30-minute or 90-minute tickets.
If you ride multiple times a day, go for a 24-hour ticket.
If you'll be using it for three full days, up to a 72-hour ticket.
Compare them to fit your itinerary perfectly.
The PID app is convenient because you can use it without signing up, but
activating it before boarding and checking its valid status 1 minute later is the most important thing.
