After exploring the magnificent Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, we headed for dinner at Kantyna.
Just from the name, I wasn't sure what to expect, but stepping inside revealed a unique concept: a butcher shop combined with a restaurant.
I'm excited to share exactly what we ordered and even our detailed receipt!
Kantyna is a creation of the Ambiente group, known for several fantastic restaurants across Prague. Its official name even includes "Řeznictví" (Butcher Shop), highlighting its strong butchery identity.
Walking down the charming alley, the bold KANTYNA banner hanging above the building immediately catches your eye. The sign itself might leave you wondering if it's a restaurant or solely a butcher shop.
This wasn't a serendipitous discovery on our way down from Prague Castle; we had it marked on our map, so finding it was a breeze.

Upon entering, you'll receive a small card, and this card is essentially your order form.
Categories include Delicacies (tartare, pork ear, carpaccio, marrow bone, soup, duck pâté, liver pâté), Ready meals, By weight (menus calculated by weight), Side dishes (boiled vegetables, potato pancakes, pickled vegetables, cucumber salad, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, coleslaw), Sauces (coffee sauce, tartare, apple horseradish, horseradish, chimichurri), and Desserts (Czech sweet bun, bread pudding, pie). As you browse the different counters and select your desired dishes, a staff member will mark them on your card.
Steak orders are placed at the butcher counter near the entrance. For other ready-to-eat dishes, you head to the open kitchen just past the butcher counter. Beverages are ordered at a station behind the open kitchen. Yes, there are three distinct spots for ordering!
Once you've made all your selections and enjoyed your meal, you simply take your card to the checkout counter upon leaving and settle your bill all at once.
It's not your typical table-service restaurant, so we were a little confused at first. But once we got the hang of it, the unique ordering system was actually quite fun!
With your card in hand, venture further inside, and you'll encounter the butcher showcase. Behind gleaming glass, expertly prepared cuts of meat are proudly displayed.
Whole roasted meats, smoked sausages, and various cuts are piled high on trays, making it a feast for the eyes and a joy to browse.
Beyond that, the open kitchen allows you to watch the chefs skillfully grill your chosen meat right before your eyes.
It truly feels like you're picking out your groceries from a high-end butcher and having them cooked on the spot, offering a level of freshness unlike any other steakhouse.

On this visit, we ordered the Carpaccio, pickled vegetables, and a T-Bone steak, accompanied by a refreshing Kozel draft beer and bottled water.
The Carpaccio was artfully drizzled with sauce, and the side of pickled cucumbers, carrots, red onions, and cabbage offered a delightful tang, perfectly cutting through the richness of the meat.
The T-Bone steak is priced by weight, so the final cost depends on the specific cut you choose (ours was 1.06 pounds or 0.48 kg).
The receipt shows: Carpaccio for 368 CZK, Kozel Draft Beer for 88 CZK, Pickled Vegetables for 95 CZK, Bottled Water for 95 CZK, Coffee Sauce for 88 CZK, and the T-Bone Steak (1.06 lbs / 0.48 kg) for 1,650 CZK, totaling 2,384 CZK.
The tip was not included, and the receipt suggested a 10% gratuity, amounting to 236 CZK.
