Prague September & October Weather 2026: Local Packing Tips
Prepare for your autumn adventure in Prague! Get real-world weather expectations for September and October, plus essential packing advice from a long-term local.

Having spent autumn in Prague myself,
I wanted to share a monthly breakdown of what the weather is actually like and how to dress for September and October.
Prague in September = Early Autumn vibes / Trench coats
Prague in October = Late Autumn vibes / Wool coats & lightweight down jackets

The daily temperature swing is over 10°C (18°F), meaning smart packing is essential
if you want to stay energized and fully enjoy your trip.
As a former Prague resident of six months,
I’ve put together a realistic guide to September and October weather,
complete with real-life outfit ideas—the kind of practical tips AI won’t tell you!
Prague Weather & Outfits in September
A Crisp, Early Autumn Feel
✅ Summary
Warm days, but huge temperature drops at night
The shade can feel quite chilly
Pack a scarf—you'll thank me later!

In September, Prague temperatures range from a low of 9°C (48°F) to a high of 19°C (66°F).
Aside from the temperature swings, it rarely rains, making it an absolute dream for sightseeing.
If you're planning a trip to Prague in the second half of the year, I would highly recommend September!
The sun sets much later than it does in winter,
and the city is still lush and green, so your photos will turn out amazing.

However, in a landlocked country like the Czech Republic, no rain means
that when it gets chilly, it feels much colder.
The temperature drops rapidly, and even during the day, stepping into the shade will make you shiver.

Especially in early September, daytime is warm enough for short sleeves,
but a light outer layer is absolutely essential as soon as evening falls.
I practically lived in a [t-shirt + light cardigan] combination.

By late September, the air starts to feel quite crisp even during the day.
Even so, the sky remains incredibly clear,
and since the autumn leaves are only half-fallen, the city still looks lively and beautiful.

Here is a look at what locals and tourists wear during the day!
Outfits are all over the place, ranging from trench coats to short-sleeve tees.
So, how did I dress, being someone who gets cold super easily?

When I was out only during the day,
a [button-up shirt + trench coat + jeans] was perfect.
It was warm enough to handle those chilly shady spots with ease.
My friend mostly stuck to a comfortable [hoodie + knit cardigan] look.

But on days when I wanted to explore late into the night,
I wore a [thin turtleneck + sheer tights + knit skirt + trench coat].

If you let your guard down in September just because Prague is warm at noon,
you might easily catch a cold once the temperature drops.
Make sure to plan your outfits around your daily itinerary to stay warm and comfortable!

One accessory I personally highly recommend is a scarf!
A heavy winter scarf is too warm, but a light scarf is just perfect.
With a scarf, you can easily brave the chilly nights even if you're dressed a bit light.
Prague Weather & What to Wear in October
Crisp, peak autumn vibes
✅ Quick Summary
The weather varies greatly depending on whether it's sunny or cloudy,
and there is a huge difference between early and late October.
By late October, you'll need winter-ish pieces like turtlenecks and wool coats.

October weather in Prague averages a low of 4°C (39°F) and a high of 13°C (55°F).
The real-feel temperature varies wildly depending on whether the sun is out,
and you'll definitely need warmer winter clothing as you head into late October.

Until early October, it can be warm enough on sunny days to spot people wearing short sleeves.
But for most of us, I’d say at least a long-sleeve shirt is the way to go.
Still, it's relatively warm during this time.

On days when we walked around a lot,
I was perfectly fine in just a [hoodie or long-sleeve shirt] during the day,
and wearing just a knit cardigan was also quite comfortable until mid-afternoon.

But when the clouds roll in, the temperature drops instantly,
so you'll need to wear something like
[button-up shirt + fleece-lined hoodie zip-up + jeans]
to stay comfortable.
If the forecast shows cloudy skies during your Prague trip,
I highly recommend packing outerwear suitable for late autumn.

By late October, it's time to start bringing out the winter gear.
Our go-to daily outfit was usually a [turtleneck or shirt + coat],
and a coat was absolutely essential.
(A full-on heavy puffer jacket might feel a bit overkill, though!)

Alternatively, a [turtleneck + button-up shirt + lightweight down jacket] combo worked great too.
A puffer vest is also a fantastic option.
The key is layering up so you aren't caught off guard by the cold!

While summer is the most popular time to visit Prague,
having lived here for 6 months, the weather in September and October was so incredible
that I personally highly recommend an autumn trip.
However, since the local shopping options might not always fit your style,
I suggest taking these weather, outfit, and practical tips to heart,
and packing plenty of your favorite stylish outfits from home! :)
Below, I've also shared some must-visit spots and top restaurant recommendations in Prague,
so feel free to check them out if you're planning your itinerary!

What should I wear and what items are needed if I have a late-night schedule in Prague in September?
