Sunset experience and statue wishes

Hello, explorers!

This is Mini, on my annual leave adventure!

The first time I visited Charles Bridge in Prague,

it was rainy and cloudy.

I was a bit disappointed not to see the scenery I'd hoped for,

but when I returned on another day at sunset,

it was absolutely stunning and remains a vivid memory.

Today, I'll share my experiences from two visits,

stories about the statues and making wishes, as well as information on viewpoints and surrounding itineraries.

Charles Bridge is a magnificent bridge over the Vltava River,

connecting Prague's Old Town with Malá Strana.

There's even a fascinating legend tied to its construction time.

It's said that Emperor Charles IV laid the first stone on July 9, 1357, at 5:31 AM.

When you write the year, day, month, and time consecutively, you get 135797531,

a palindrome that reads the same forwards and backward!

Though it was rainy and cloudy initially,

I still enjoyed the views of the Vltava River and Prague Castle.

When I returned on another day at sunset,

the atmosphere was completely different and left an even deeper impression.

So, if you can only visit once, I highly recommend going at sunset!

If you want to see the stunning Charles Bridge night view in Prague,

I suggest arriving before sunset to experience the transition as the city lights up.

Stretching approximately 500m, the bridge is adorned with

30 statues of saints.

Among the famous statues on Charles Bridge is Jan Nepomuk,

distinguished by the five stars around his head.

There's a custom of touching the metal relief decoration below Jan Nepomuk's statue

to wish for good luck.

Additionally, a legend says you can make a wish by aligning your fingers with the stars on the cross located on the bridge's railing.

If you're looking for a viewpoint of Charles Bridge,

check out the Old Town Bridge Tower on the Old Town side.

You'll climb 138 steps to reach the observation deck.

For those looking for a place to eat nearby,

I recommend Kozlovna, a place I've visited twice.

and it's super convenient due to its proximity to Charles Bridge and the Old Town.

Plan to arrive before sunset on your travel date,

and also consider your dinner plans and the route back to your accommodation.

If you add the time to climb the observatory stairs to the time spent admiring the statues and riverbank,

you'll need some flexibility in your schedule.

After visiting Charles Bridge, I moved towards Strahov by tram.

Be sure to check transportation options for your next destination as well.

For me, Charles Bridge is a place where the scenery I rediscovered at sunset leaves a more lasting impression

than any disappointment from a cloudy day.

If I go to Prague again, I'd want to visit at sunset.

I recommend it to anyone traveling to Prague for the first time,

or those with a short itinerary who want to enjoy the city's scenery.

If you include Charles Bridge in your itinerary,

make sure to leave some time not just for crossing the bridge, but also for taking in the views of the river and the city!
