An Absolute Must-See for Every Traveler

If you're planning a trip to Prague, Czech Republic, and ask friends who've already been, chances are Prague Castle will be at the top of their recommendations!
On my European travels last year in 2025, I visited Prague Castle, and it's a place that still leaves a lasting impression on me.
It's truly difficult to talk about Prague without mentioning its iconic castle complex.
At first glance, Prague Castle might just seem like a single 'castle.' But once you delve deeper, you'll discover it's a massive historical complex encompassing a grand cathedral, royal palaces, monasteries, and even the charming Golden Lane.
How to Get to Prague Castle

Prague Castle is majestically perched on a hill. While your starting point in Prague will slightly alter your route, the most popular and convenient way to ascend is by tram.

If you're staying near Old Town Square or Wenceslas Square, hopping on Tram 22 from a nearby stop is usually the easiest option.
Take Tram 22 and get off at the Prazsky hrad stop. This stop connects directly to the castle entrance, saving you energy and making for a comfortable arrival.

For the most stunning night views in Prague, nothing beats the panorama from Prague Castle – it's truly unforgettable.
Especially as the sun sets, the cityscapes visible through the narrow alleys evoke a cinematic, deeply emotional atmosphere that will surely captivate you.

If you opt to walk to Prague Castle instead of taking the tram, it might be a bit of a climb, but you'll be treated to picturesque streetscapes. As you reach the top, you'll spot the Prague Castle Starbucks.
This isn't just the closest coffee shop to the castle; it's also famous as a prime spot for enjoying the castle's night views.
It's also a fantastic place to sip coffee and admire the scenery during the day, especially from the outdoor seating (weather permitting, of course!).
Prague Castle Audio Guide Tour
More than just a castle – discover its hidden depths

Given the sheer size of Prague Castle, whether you're with a guide or exploring independently, I highly recommend using an audio guide.
The main advantage of an audio guide tour is the ability to replay information. With a traditional guided tour, if you miss something or want to revisit a point, it can be awkward to ask again when there are other people in the group.
Considering factors like cost-effectiveness, engaging storytelling, and flexibility, an audio guide is truly unparalleled for independent travelers exploring the castle complex.

If you're lucky during your visit to Prague Castle, you might witness the Changing of the Guards, which feels like watching a magnificent parade.
Seeing the guards playing their trumpets and performing their impressive drills provides a unique and memorable experience.
Entrance After Purchasing Tickets

While you can purchase Prague Castle tickets on-site, I highly recommend buying them in advance online.
Purchasing locally might pose communication challenges, so it's best to secure your tickets through one of the many online platforms available.
On-site ticket purchase for access to the four main attractions costs 450 Czech Koruna (approximately ~$29 USD).
🏁 Important Note
During the winter season, from November to March, the castle grounds operate until 4 PM.

Recommended Visit Time for Prague Castle

Whether you're joining a walking tour or exploring on your own, I always recommend visiting in the afternoon.
The reason? Prague Castle sits on the city's highest point, offering the most breathtaking sunsets and night views. Plus, timing your internal tour to finish around dusk means you'll perfectly catch the magical evening ambiance.

Inside Prague Castle, you'll find St. Vitus Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the Czech Republic, housing the tombs of kings and emperors.
With its soaring ceilings and exquisite Gothic architecture, St. Vitus Cathedral is truly immense and challenging to take in completely with just your eyes.

Even as you exit St. Vitus Cathedral and head towards St. George's Basilica, the buildings themselves are incredibly beautiful.

Using the Tourlive audio guide for Prague Castle was fantastic, as it covers everything from directions on how to get there to a comprehensive internal tour, which I found very helpful.

Once you know the best way to get to Prague Castle and experience its night views, you'll fall even deeper in love with Prague.
Especially, the experience of truly uncovering the heart of the Czech Republic with Tourlive will elevate your trip beyond simple sightseeing.
If you're eager to soak up 200% of Prague's romance, make sure to utilize the expert storytelling and explanations from Tourlive's certified guides for your Prague Castle tour.
