If you're looking for an amazing breakfast or brunch spot in Prague's Old Town, look no further than Bistro Monk.
Recommended by my sister, a seasoned Prague traveler who's visited three times, Bistro Monk is a true gem. Its prime location in the Old Town means easy access from all major attractions.
While it's incredibly popular and often has a wait even at 11 AM (the interior isn't huge), it's definitely worth it. Starting your day with a delicious brunch here is the perfect way to kick off your Prague adventures.
Here's everything you need to know about Bistro Monk's location, operating hours, menu, and my honest review of their brunch.

1. Bistro Monk Location

Bistro Monk is perfectly situated in Prague's Old Town, making it incredibly convenient to weave into your sightseeing itinerary.
✔️ Just a 3-minute walk from Havel's Market
✔️ A quick 2-minute stroll from the Prague Astronomical Clock
✔️ Only a 9-minute walk to the Powder Tower and an 8-minute walk to Charles Bridge
Its excellent location means you can enjoy a fantastic breakfast and then immediately dive into exploring the Old Town.

Michalská 20, Staré Město, 110 00 Praha-Praha 1, Czech Republic

There's also a second location near the iconic John Lennon Wall.
While the Old Town branch is often more convenient for tourists, if the wait is too long, consider checking out their second location.
We stayed at Residence Bologna in the Old Town, which was about a 7-minute walk to Bistro Monk. It was super easy to drop off our bags at the hotel and head straight there on our first day in Prague.
Residence Bologna is a 4-star hotel that offered a more reasonable price compared to other central Old Town accommodations.
Their breakfast was delicious, and being able to walk to the Astronomical Clock and Charles Bridge was a huge plus. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a great place to stay in Prague!

2. Operating Hours
Bistro Monk's operating hours are as follows:
Sunday - Thursday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Friday & Saturday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM
As a brunch spot, they open bright and early, but they don't stay open late, so it's a good idea to check their hours before you go.

We arrived around 11:00 AM, hoping to avoid the rush, but even then, the line was quite long. It's clearly a favorite among locals and tourists alike!
We visited last winter when the weather was quite chilly, and the staff even offered warm tea to those waiting outside. Talk about hospitality!
This unexpected kindness really set a positive tone for our Prague trip.

We eventually got in after about a 30-minute wait. The interior isn't huge, so the table turnover isn't super fast.
If you're not a fan of waiting, heading to their second location is an option.
The second branch is rumored to take reservations, so if your itinerary is set, it might be worth checking their availability in advance.

Our table was equipped with sugar, salt, and pepper.
3. Menu Highlights

Bistro Monk Prague Menu
Bistro Monk's menu focuses on classic brunch dishes.
You'll find plenty of options perfect for breakfast or lunch, including avocado toast, eggs Benedict, superfood bowls, fluffy pancakes, and granola with yogurt.
If you're craving a European-style brunch during your travels, you'll appreciate the wide selection here.
Beyond coffee, their drink menu includes matcha, lemonade, juices, and even beer and wine.
Pair your morning meal with coffee or juice, or if you're enjoying a late brunch, a beer or glass of wine would be a perfect complement.
4. Our Dining Experience

What We Ordered
🍽️ Avocado Toast + Roasted Mushrooms: 275 CZK
(add a poached egg for 40 CZK)
🍽️ Buttermilk Pancakes + Blueberry Sauce: 288 CZK
🍽️ Orange Juice: 158 CZK

The absolute highlight for me was the Buttermilk Pancakes.
I've had my share of pancakes, but these were exceptionally soft with a rich, buttery flavor that made them truly stand out.

I was curious about the blueberry sauce pairing, but it wasn't overly sweet; instead, it offered a delightful tanginess that perfectly cut through the richness of the pancakes.
Add a dollop of whipped cream, and you've got a textural masterpiece. Between the two dishes, the pancakes were my clear winner.

The Avocado Toast, despite its name, was more like an open-faced sandwich.
It featured generous slices of avocado and perfectly roasted mushrooms on a hearty slice of bread. The mushrooms were especially noteworthy – beautifully caramelized on the outside yet juicy and tender within, bursting with flavor.

The poached egg we added was cooked to absolute perfection, with a silky white that melted in your mouth and a runny yolk that blended beautifully with the bread and mushrooms.

The orange juice tasted like freshly squeezed oranges, without any artificial syrupiness.
While it was refreshing and fresh, the sweetness was a bit lacking, perhaps because we visited outside of orange season.
We enjoyed both dishes, but considering the price point, I'm not sure I'd rush back for them specifically.
With two dishes and one drink costing over ~$36, I felt like I could find a similar quality brunch experience for a comparable price back home.
Bistro Monk Prague Review
However, given its prime location in the heart of Prague's Old Town and the overall quality of the food, it's still a fantastic spot to soak in the European brunch atmosphere during your travels.
