Hello everyone!
It's Mini, here from Mini's annual leave trip.
When choosing accommodation in Prague, you're probably wondering where to stay: Old Town, near Charles Bridge, or by the Main Station.
If sightseeing is your priority, then Old Town is for you;
if your itinerary heavily features Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, consider Malá Strana;
and if you're traveling by train, the area around the Main Station is a great place to start your comparison.
I personally stayed in the Old Town area,
so let me break down 3 accommodations to compare based on your travel itinerary.

Choosing the Right Accommodation in Prague for Your Itinerary |
Instead of starting your search with hotels,
deciding where you'll spend most of your time in Prague first
will make choosing your accommodation much easier.
✔️ If you plan to see Old Town, the Astronomical Clock, and Charles Bridge extensively
→ Old Town
✔️ If Charles Bridge & Prague Castle are your main focus
→ Malá Strana
✔️ If you're traveling by train to your next city (e.g., Vienna, Budapest)
→ Main Station
Area | Nearby Attractions | Ideal for Itineraries Focusing On |
Old Town | Old Town Square, Astronomical Clock, Havel's Market, Charles Bridge | An itinerary exploring major attractions on foot |
Malá Strana | West of Charles Bridge, St. Nicholas Church, Prague Castle | An itinerary centered around Charles Bridge and Prague Castle |
New Town & Main Station | Main Station, Wenceslas Square, National Museum | An itinerary combining train travel with urban sightseeing |
Old Town is the area where you'll encounter the most major attractions
when you visit Prague for the first time.
You can explore Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock, and Havel's Market,
and then easily walk to Charles Bridge from there,
making it especially convenient for planning your route on your first trip to Prague.

Malá Strana is located across Charles Bridge,
nestled below Prague Castle.
If your journey centers around Charles Bridge, St. Nicholas Church,
and Prague Castle,
then staying in this area is a wonderfully efficient choice.

New Town and the Main Station area are perfect for travelers
who prioritize inter-city travel.
The Main Station, Wenceslas Square, and the National Museum are all connected here,
and it's a huge plus as it minimizes the hassle of moving your luggage when you're catching a train to your next city, like Vienna or Budapest.

If Old Town Sightseeing is Your Focus |
BOOKQUET
This is the hotel where I personally stayed in Prague.
It's located on the Old Town side of Charles Bridge, close to the Vltava River.

This location is worth considering if your itinerary includes not only Old Town Square
but also strolls along Charles Bridge and the riverside.

If Charles Bridge and Prague Castle are your focus |
Old Royal Post
If your itinerary includes a lot of time at Charles Bridge and Prague Castle,
check out Old Royal Post in Malá Strana.

Since it's the area right after crossing Charles Bridge,
it's perfect for walking across Charles Bridge in the morning or evening,
and combining Malá Strana and Prague Castle on the same day.
This accommodation not only boasts a great location,
but also offers rooms with kitchen and laundry facilities.

If you're staying in Prague for several days,
or need to do laundry and prepare simple meals during your trip,
this offers advantages that a typical hotel might not.

If train travel is important to you |
Miss Sophie's Downtown
If you're traveling by train from Prague to your next city,
like Vienna or Budapest,
compare Miss Sophie's Downtown.

Its location, close to both the main train station and Wenceslas Square,
makes it especially advantageous for itineraries involving early morning trains or late arrivals in Prague.
Prague has many cobblestone areas,
so pulling luggage around wasn't as easy as I expected.
That's why if you're traveling by train,
I recommend considering the distance between the main station and your accommodation,
just as much as the distance to tourist attractions.

Mini's Planning Tips |
1. Consider your last stop of the day first |
If you often end your day's itinerary in the Old Town or by Charles Bridge in the evening,
then staying in the Old Town or Malá Strana will be more convenient.
And if you have an early train departure,
the advantages of staying near the main station become even greater.
2. Group attractions that are in the same direction |
Plan Old Town Square → Astronomical Clock → Havels' Market → Charles Bridge
as one route,
and on the day you cross Charles Bridge,
it's great to combine Malá Strana → Prague Castle.
3. Factor in luggage movement separately from sightseeing |
Even if 10-15 minutes looks close on a map,
it feels completely different when you're dragging luggage.
Beyond just the distance from the station to your accommodation,
also check for cobblestones, stairs, elevators, and luggage storage options
before and after check-in.
Overall Review |
If it were my first trip to Prague again,
I'd probably look for accommodation in the Old Town first.
It was genuinely convenient to walk between the main attractions.
If your itinerary heavily features Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, consider Malá Strana.
If you're traveling by train to your next city,
compare areas around the main station first.
Rather than just choosing a famous place to stay in Prague,
if you choose based on where you'll visit most often and when you'll be moving luggage,
it'll be easier to find a location that perfectly suits your itinerary.
