Back home, the gourmet frozen yogurt craze has been huge for a while. But let's be honest, with all those delicious toppings, the price can easily hit over ~$15-20, making it quite a splurge.

What if I told you that in Malaysia,

you can enjoy a delightful treat for just a few dollars, often under ~$5?

Malaysia's Answer to Gourmet Froyo

Allow me to introduce you to Yogurt Planet.

The particular Yogurt Planet branch I visited is conveniently located on the 3rd floor of Gurney Plaza.

For those exploring Penang,

you'll find two branches: one here at Gurney Plaza and another at Queensbay Mall.

How to Order at Yogurt Planet

Thankfully, Yogurt Planet has a cozy seating area in the back, so you can relax and enjoy your creation right there.

The best part? Even if you go for the largest size, you won't spend more than ~$7.

When you first step into the store, the friendly staff will likely ask if it's your first time and patiently guide you through the ordering process, step by step.

STEP 1

First, decide on your desired menu item and size.

We opted for the DIY Small Cup.

STEP 2

Next, grab your chosen cup size and head over to the fruit bar to fill it with your favorite fruits. You can fill the cup up to halfway with fruit.

STEP 3

Then, it's time to pick your yogurt!

There are six types of yogurt to choose from: Plain, Multi-grain, Coconut Spirulina, Green Grape, Strawberry, and Peach. Feel free to ask for a sample if you can't decide!

After sampling, we chose the Multi-grain. A staff member will then expertly fill your cup with yogurt.

STEP 4

With your cup in hand, it's time for the fun part: adding toppings! You can choose from a variety of options, mostly different flavored jellies, but also cereals and marshmallows.

Simply pick what you like and pile them on!

One thing to keep in mind: you'll need to keep your toppings level with the cup's rim. If you pile them up higher, you'll simply pay a small additional fee.

Once your masterpiece is complete, head to the counter to pay.

For a small extra charge, you can even top your creation with frozen yogurt ice cream!

Yogurt Review

I chose the multi-grain yogurt, and honestly, its greyish hue wasn't the most appetizing sight at first glance 🤣.

However, the combination of the multi-grain's wholesome nuttiness and the yogurt's fresh tang was absolutely delightful. With the added fruit, it truly felt like I was enjoying a healthy dessert.

The quality of the base yogurt is so good that whatever you add to it will taste fantastic. Next time, I plan to try the plain yogurt to fully appreciate its natural flavor.

Overall Verdict

I'd heard some travelers say that Malaysian dairy products aren't always the best, but I've been pleasantly surprised to find so many fantastic ice cream and yogurt spots here. It's been a truly enjoyable culinary journey!
