Grab Food Delivery in Malaysia

Hey there, fellow travelers!

During my extended stay in Malaysia, I usually enjoyed dining out or cooking at my accommodation. But one day, I was feeling a bit lazy and decided it was the perfect time to try out Grab food delivery.

I initially wondered if it would be complicated since it was my first time using it abroad. To my surprise, it was incredibly user-friendly and very similar to popular delivery apps I use back home like DoorDash or Uber Eats.

STEP 1

First, open the Grab app and navigate to the FOOD menu.

Since you're ordering delivery, select Delivery. This is usually the default option, so you likely won't need to change it.

STEP 2

Search for the dish you're craving or the name of a specific restaurant.

We were in the mood for Pasembur, so that's what we searched for.

You'll be able to see the ratings, delivery fees, and estimated delivery times. The delivery time typically varies based on the distance from the restaurant to your location.

STEP 3

We selected a restaurant that had great ratings and wasn't too far away.

Now, it's time to choose your items from the menu.

STEP 4

Input your desired size, any add-ons, and special requests for the restaurant.

We simply selected the size. After making your choices, click Add to Basket.

STEP 5

It's convenient to have your address pre-entered. If you've used Grab for rides, your accommodation is likely already saved, so you can just select it.

Next, write a message for your driver. Our delivery was only permitted to the lobby, so we instructed the driver to "Please leave the order on the table in the lobby."

Then, choose your delivery option.

Similar to many delivery services globally, dedicated, single-order delivery is usually the most expensive. We opted for the standard delivery option.

STEP 6

Scroll down past the address input to review your payment information.

Here you'll see the food cost, delivery fee, and any international transaction fees if you're using a foreign credit card, as we were.

If you need forks or spoons, make sure to check the 'Cutlery' box. We skipped this since we were eating at our accommodation.

You can choose your payment method, but for the convenience of contactless delivery, we highly recommend using a pre-registered card.

STEP 7

Tap Place Order to complete your order.

For card payments, the amount will be held until the delivery is completed, at which point the payment will be finalized.

Just like other popular delivery apps, you can track the progress of your order and receive notifications once your driver begins the delivery.

One unique feature we noticed was that the driver's face, name, motorcycle model, and license plate number are all displayed. This adds an extra layer of transparency!

You also have the option to tip your driver, and we were told that 100% of these tips go directly to them, which is fantastic.

Since we selected the standard delivery option, it showed that our driver was handling multiple deliveries concurrently.

You can track your driver's exact location and even see traffic conditions on the map. Even with standard delivery, our order arrived a remarkable 15 minutes earlier than the estimated time!

Once the delivery is complete, similar to other popular food delivery services, the driver will send a photo of where they left your order, and you'll receive a notification that your card payment has been finalized.

The food arrived in excellent condition, and the delivery was surprisingly fast, making the whole experience incredibly convenient. I'll definitely be using Grab for food delivery more often when I'm feeling a bit lazy!
