✔︎ A die-hard fan of legendary Korean table-side fried rice
Ever since my grandmother fell ill, I haven't been able to enjoy her legendary homemade spicy marinated duck. I've tried several famous duck restaurants around Gimpo to fill the void, but none of them quite captured that perfect nostalgic flavor.
Hoping to find a new favorite, I did some digging and came across Ori Goomter. The reviews were stellar, so I decided to give it a shot, keeping my expectations in check.
First impressions? The restaurant is incredibly clean, and the tables are spaced out nicely. You don't have to feel like you're rubbing shoulders with the party next to you, which makes for a much more comfortable dining experience.
I loved that the tables weren't sticky at all (a common issue at BBQ joints!). Plus, each table is equipped with an ordering tablet, letting you browse the menu and customize your order at your own pace.
Authentic Local Flavors at Gurae-dong's Ori Goomter
I originally came strictly for the spicy marinated duck (Jumulleok), but looking at the menu, they offer amazing combos! You can pair either the duck roast or marinated duck with pork belly, or go for a half-and-half duck feast.
Since we love pork belly, duck roast, and marinated duck equally, the decision was tough. But since today was all about celebrating duck, we went with the Duck Roast + Spicy Marinated Duck Half-and-Half Combo.
Right after we ordered, they brought out the side dishes. Everything looked incredibly fresh, clean, and the portions were very generous! ❤️
The Star of the Show: Grilled Duck Roast
First up on the grill was the unmarinated Duck Roast. Honestly, both my dad and I are usually die-hard spicy marinated fans, so we didn't expect much from the plain roast.
But oh my goodness, it was an absolute game-changer! It was incredibly tender, with zero gamey odor. When paired with the fresh, aromatic water dropwort (minari) they provided, it was pure heaven.
While the spicy version was great, ✨️this place is a true Duck Roast masterpiece✨️. I couldn't stop raving about it to my mom the second I got home!
+ Pro-tip from the owner: Grill the duck in small batches! If you throw it all on the grill at once and overcook it, it gets tough. Cooking it in halves kept every single bite melt-in-your-mouth tender. ✨️
The Crowd Favorite: Spicy Marinated Duck (Jumulleok)
Since the plain roast set the bar so high, we were slightly worried the marinated version wouldn't live up to the hype. But one bite was all it took to understand why Ori Goomter is Gurae-dong's top-rated duck spot.
The marinade wasn't overly dark or aggressively red, which made me worry it might taste bland. It was quite the opposite!
The savory-sweet seasoning was perfectly infused into the meat, and when paired with fresh garlic chives (buchu), it created an incredible explosion of flavor.
The Grand Finale: Self-Cooked Fried Rice
We were incredibly full because the duck portions were so generous, but skipping fried rice at a Korean BBQ is practically a crime. Even if we had to roll out of the restaurant, we had to order it!
And thank goodness we did. My dad and I kept saying how full we were while continuously scraping the grill clean. We didn't leave a single grain of rice!
Bonus Treat: Tangy Jjolmyeon
This spicy, chewy cold noodle dish wasn't even officially on the menu yet—the owner kindly brought it out as a complimentary preview! He mentioned he's still deciding whether to launch it as a permanent side dish.
My verdict? An absolute, resounding YES! It needs to be on the menu. The signature bouncy texture of the jjolmyeon noodles combined with the sweet, sour, and spicy sauce was incredibly refreshing and cut through the richness of the BBQ perfectly.
Perfect Pairings: Cheongha Rice Wine
My dad usually taps out after a single bottle of Cheongha (refined Korean rice wine), but he loved the food so much he happily polished off two bottles. Great food really does make the drinks flow smoother!
And a Refreshing Coke!
As for me, I stuck to my trusty Coca-Cola. They served it with a cup packed with ice—which is always a major win in my book! ❤️
Between the phenomenal duck and the ice-cold drinks, it was the perfect dinner combo. ❤️
✔︎ Final Thoughts on Ori Goomter, Gurae-dong
The generous side dishes were amazing, but what truly blew me away was the hospitality. Before we even had to ask, the owner noticed our empty lettuce plate and refilled it for us, while guiding us on the best way to grill our meat.
I initially wondered if they were just extra attentive because of my influencer status, but I watched them treat every single table with the exact same warmth and care. This is a place where you'll always have a pleasant, welcoming meal.
Plus, considering how incredibly stuffed we were, the bill was remarkably reasonable compared to the soaring dining costs elsewhere in 2026. If you are looking for an authentic, high-value, and delicious Korean BBQ experience, Ori Goomter is an absolute must-visit.
My long-time followers know: when my reviews get this detailed, it means I'm genuinely obsessed. ❤️
