On a recent trip home from Ganghwado (강화도), a sudden downpour had us craving something warm and spicy. My aunt had raved about a Chinese restaurant called Taeyang (태양), and her recommendation led us straight to this unexpected gem in Gimpo (김포).

🍴 Taeyang, a Jjamppong & Jjajangmyeon Hotspot in Gimpo's Tongjin Area, is Perfect For:
✔︎ Those seeking delicious Jjamppong and Jjajangmyeon with incredibly chewy noodles.
✔︎ Adventurous eaters looking for Jjamppong topped with a whole cuttlefish.
✔︎ Fans of Jjajangmyeon who love it served with a perfectly fried egg.

Soaked to the bone from the rain, my aunt suggested we try Taeyang. She'd been there before and highly recommended their Jjamppong, so we trusted her judgment and made a spontaneous stop at this Tongjin Jjamppong favorite!
Taeyang Gimpo Tongjin Branch Menu

The menu featured all the standard Chinese-Korean dishes you'd expect, but the Cuttlefish Jjamppong immediately caught my eye. At ₩15,000 (~$11), it seemed like a great deal for a whole cuttlefish, especially considering how expensive they usually are. So, we ordered two Cuttlefish Jjamppong and one Ganjjajang.

For side dishes, we were served the usual pickled radish (Danmuji), raw onions, and black bean paste (Chunjang).

If you need more, there's a convenient self-service bar where you can grab extra side dishes.

Near the self-service bar, you'll also find extra plates, paper cups, and disposable aprons. Feel free to help yourself to whatever you need.
Cuttlefish Jjamppong Review
₩15,000 (~$11)

Just as the name suggests, the Cuttlefish Jjamppong arrived with a whole cuttlefish! You can easily cut it into bite-sized pieces to enjoy with the noodles. Not only was the whole cuttlefish impressive, but the noodles here are also incredibly springy and chewy. 👍🏻 The Jjamppong itself wasn't overly spicy either. Honestly, I had planned to share a Jjajangmyeon with my parents who ordered Jjamppong, but for a moment, I regretted not ordering Jjamppong for myself!
Ganjjajang
₩9,000 (~$7)

I prefer Ganjjajang over the regular Jjajangmyeon, and I was excited to try it here because it comes with a fried egg. I always love a fried egg on my black bean noodles!

After enjoying the Jjamppong so much, I actually worried the Jjajangmyeon might disappoint (especially with all those onions in the sauce!). But wow, the Jjajangmyeon was seriously delicious too! Even with a generous amount of onions, the flavor was fantastic!
Ultimately, whether it was the Jjamppong or the Jjajangmyeon, the noodles were the star – so perfectly chewy, making everything taste amazing.

And to top it all off, you can grab a complimentary coffee after your meal. A truly perfect dining experience!

✔︎ Taeyang Gimpo Tongjin Jjamppong Review
I walked into Taeyang with no expectations, but I left completely satisfied with both the Jjamppong and Jjajangmyeon, thanks to their incredible noodles. It's definitely a place I'd happily revisit!
