Discover Hanji Story in Gimpo, a premier Korean paper craft center perfect for families. Enjoy hands-on Hanji fan making and other traditional art experiences in a spacious, welcoming environment.
Hey there, fellow explorers! It's Eundambi, and I'm excited to share another adventure with you.😊
Our second stop on the Gyeonggi Tour Pass journey took us to Hanji Story, a wonderful Hanji craft experience center not far from Ganong Forest, our first destination.
🔽Check out our Ganong Forest experience with the Gyeonggi Tour Pass here🔽
Known as one of the largest Hanji (traditional Korean paper) experience centers in the country, I was really looking forward to trying my hand at making a Hanji fan.
Here’s my detailed review of Hanji Story in Gimpo!
Hanji Story Gimpo: Location, Hours, & Tips
📍 Hanji Story Experience Center 37 Seohyeon-ro, Yangchon-eup, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Closed Mondays)
Other: Group visits welcome, separate restrooms for men/women, Wi-Fi available, reservations recommended
Hanji Story is only about a 10-minute drive from Ganong Forest, which made it a perfect second activity on our Gyeonggi Tour Pass itinerary.
The short distance seemed ideal, but a word of caution: our GPS led us down some narrow, unpaved roads between rice paddies. It felt like we were off-roading, and I was holding my breath, worried we might get stuck!
My advice? Stick to the main roads as much as possible, even if your navigation tries to take you through what looks like a shortcut. All roads eventually lead there, so play it safe.
And a crucial tip for using the Gyeonggi Tour Pass: ◆IMPORTANT◆
Once you start an experience with the Gyeonggi Tour Pass, you can only scan the barcode for your next activity after a one-hour interval. It’s essential to plan your travel time and activity duration carefully to avoid waiting around.
Since Ganong Forest and Hanji Story are so close, we arrived a bit early. Thankfully, the staff at Hanji Story were very understanding. After confirming our phone number, they let us start our experience without any delay, which was a huge relief!
Parking & Ambiance at Hanji Story
Hanji Story offers ample parking and a spacious indoor area, complete with an exhibition hall and even an outdoor space. It felt very comfortable and pleasant to explore.
The large windows let in plenty of natural light, and the high ceilings gave the space a wonderfully open and airy feel.
Hanji Craft Experiences at Gimpo Hanji Story: Fan Making
With the Gyeonggi Tour Pass, we could choose from three exciting programs: making a Hanji fan, a Hanji lantern, or a Hanji mosaic frame.
Our family decided to each make a Hanji fan, so we ended up crafting four beautiful fans in total!
The staff promptly provided all the materials. There was such a wide variety of lovely designs to choose from, picking our favorite patterns was part of the fun!
The process was quite simple: just cut out the designs and glue them onto the fan with potato paste. It wasn't difficult at all, and even the kids followed along easily.
Once we finished, everyone was busy showing off their creations, each convinced their fan was the prettiest!
Hanji Story: Han River-Style Ramen & Relaxation Zone
After our craft session, we noticed a ramen machine inside! You can grab a delicious cup of Han River-style instant ramen for just ~$3.
It’s a great option for a quick bite if you have some time to kill between activities or just need to refuel.
Beyond the ramen, the entire space is so spacious and comfortable, making it a perfect spot to relax and escape the heat for a while.
Before leaving, I popped into the restroom and found the cutest diaper changing station. It's clear they've thought of everything to make visits comfortable for families with little ones – truly excellent!
Overall Review
Our visit to Hanji Story was a fantastic experience. The Hanji fan-making activity allowed us to create something tangible with our hands, and there's a real sense of accomplishment when you finish.
The kids especially loved making something practical they could use frequently, like a fan for those warm summer days.
I'm sure making a mosaic frame or a lantern would be just as fun, and I'd love to try those crafts on a future visit.
