Rather than making a special trip, it's perfectly located
for a stop along the way from Wanaka to Tekapo.

The salmon shop is next to the **Lake Pukaki Visitor Centre** building.
Lake Pukaki is visible behind the building,
and the colors were truly stunning.
Menu & Prices

✔ 100g: NZD 15 (~$10)
✔ 250g: NZD 26 (~$18)

The **100g portion sells out quickly**, so you need to go early to get it.

**500g is the perfect amount for two people.**
It's enough to eat generously without leaving any leftovers.
We intentionally saved some to have with wine in the evening,
and it was even better with wine.
Honest Taste Review

We stopped here on our way from Wanaka to Tekapo,
and after checking out other salmon shops along the way,
this place's salmon looked much richer in color and more delicious.
Since it's New Zealand, the **price is a bit steep**, but
as a salmon lover, I couldn't resist trying it.

Perhaps because the salmon is raised in Mount Cook glacial water,
there's **absolutely no fishy taste.**
It melts in your mouth, savory and delicate,
a flavor that disappears all too quickly as you eat.

It's more soft and savory than chewy.
It's on a completely different level from salmon I've had elsewhere in New Zealand.
I truly understood why people call it 'life-changing salmon'.

There were even travelers around us who brought their own cup noodles and soju to enjoy with their meal.
The salmon alone was delicious enough, but it was also great to pair it with ramen.
Outdoor Seating & Pro Tips

Behind the salmon shop, there's a spacious outdoor terrace area.
The spots right in front of the lake are very popular, so it's a good idea to grab a seat quickly.
Especially during lunchtime, it can get quite competitive for seats.
If you can't find a seat, don't worry – you can always settle down on a nearby rock or on the grass to eat.
No matter where you eat, you'll still have a fantastic view of Lake Pukaki.

Just a heads-up, it can be quite windy by the lake, so trash and cups might blow away.
The general rule is to take all non-salmon waste back with you, so it's a great idea to bring a bag for your trash.

Pro Tip Summary
✔ Pack gochujang in advance (NZD 8 on-site)
✔ Soy sauce and wasabi are provided for free
✔ Hot water can be purchased for NZD 1
✔ Bring a bag to take your trash back with you
✔ Paid restrooms: Women NZD 2 / Men NZD 1
✔ On a clear day, you can even spot Mount Cook in the distance!
Lake Pukaki Views

Honestly, while the salmon was great, the lake view was even more stunning.
I've never seen a lake with this color before, not in Korea, nor anywhere else on New Zealand's South Island.
It's a milky emerald hue, and calling it 'Pocari Sweat blue' truly captures it perfectly.

They say this color is created by the meltwater flowing in from Mount Cook's glaciers.
Even with a camera, it's impossible to capture even half of its real-life brilliance.

Next to the salmon shop, there are also walking paths and photo zones, perfect for a leisurely stroll after your meal.

It's conveniently located right on New Zealand's South Island drive route, so you don't even need to clear your schedule; you can just naturally stop by.
With Lake Pukaki's stunning views and delicious salmon, it's truly a place too wonderful to just drive past.

In the next post, I'll be covering a beautiful free camping site at Lake Pukaki in detail.
