On a New Zealand campervan trip,

one of the most crucial tasks is grocery shopping.

Choosing the right supermarket can make a big difference to your food budget!

Today, I'll be sharing my grocery shopping experience at

New World Queenstown, which is closest to Queenstown Airport

and even has dedicated campervan parking, along with

a comprehensive list of recommended items.

Comparing Three Major Supermarkets in New Zealand

When you're grocery shopping in New Zealand, the most commonly visited supermarkets are

Woolworths, Four Square, and New World.

Throughout my trip, I used New World the most.

It has branches in most cities like Queenstown, Wanaka, and Christchurch.

However, in Tekapo, there's only Four Square, so

it's a good idea to stock up on groceries beforehand if you're heading there.

Why I Recommend New World

If you're starting your New Zealand journey from Queenstown,

there are a few absolute must-visit reasons for this particular New World.

It's the closest large supermarket to Queenstown Airport,

and it even has dedicated parking for campervans.

As Queenstown's largest supermarket, it offers a huge variety of products!

The meat selection, in particular, is incredibly diverse, making it fun to choose from.

Beyond that, they also sell Korean ramen, snacks, seaweed, and soju!

But the biggest advantage of all is its member discount system.

Picking up your campervan and then heading straight here for groceries

is the most efficient itinerary.

How to Get a Membership Card

Membership is essential.

There are quite a few items that are only discounted for members!

Head to the App Store or Google Play

and download the New World NZ app.

You can only enter New Zealand phone numbers, so

I just put in a random number.

However, email authentication is required,

so you absolutely must use your own email address.

Present Your Membership Card at Checkout

I saved about $30

on a purchase of roughly $250.

The more member-discounted items you choose,

the bigger your savings will be!

Another Great Feature of the App

You can check your purchase history, including item names, prices, and photos,

right in the app!

It was super convenient to quickly check what that delicious item I bought last time was,

especially when I couldn't remember its name.

Recommended Purchase Items

Meat

The meat quality in New Zealand is truly exceptional.

Especially the lamb – it has a distinct flavor profile

different from what you might be used to back home.

Since bone-in lamb is easy to prepare, it's a great option

to buy the raw cuts.

Snacks

Besides the items above, among the potato chips,

the ones with the penguin drawing are really tasty!

Alcoholic Beverages

There are many types of wine available,

so try varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir

and choose the one that suits your taste best!

If there was anything described as award-winning, I just went for it!

Fruit Buying Hacks

New Zealand doesn't operate on a large-scale, greenhouse economy;

they **only sell seasonal fruits**.

Sometimes fruits aren't as tasty at the very end of their season,

so I recommend buying a small amount to taste first. If it's good, then go ahead and get more!

**on your way to Wanaka!**

Cromwell is renowned for its fruit orchards, so you can find much fresher and more affordable fruit there than at the supermarket.

And seriously, the cherry gelato... absolutely divine!

You can easily stop by Cromwell if you're traveling from Queenstown to Wanaka.

**Highly recommend Jones Family Fruit Stall!**

If you effectively use a **New World membership**,

you can drastically cut down on your campervan food expenses.

There's even dedicated campervan parking near the airport,

so the best route is to stop there right after you pick up your campervan.

you can get instant discounts at the checkout.

I got a $30 discount on a $250 purchase,

but if you consciously select items that are on member discount,

you can save even more!

Spend plenty of time in the meat section,

**always stock up on Moa Oatmeal Stout** if you see it,

and on your way to Wanaka, definitely make a stop at a **Cromwell fruit shop**.

Remember, buying a little fruit to taste first is the best way to avoid disappointment.
