When you're searching for a great restaurant, which reviews do you trust the most?
For me, I always cross-reference with 'Kakao Map reviews', which are notoriously strict with their ratings.
Recently, I was in Chungmuro for an errand and stumbled upon a real gem – a restaurant with over 4 stars on Kakao Map reviews!
It's Nangman Jjamppong, a place that stakes its reputation on a single menu item: Jjamppong.
This place, beloved by local office workers for their lunch and even as a hangover cure, offers a deeply rich Jjamppong made with a bone broth base. I'll share my honest, personal review (my money, my review!) and some fantastic tips for navigating the lunch rush!

How long is the wait at Nangman Jjamppong?
Can I order takeout from Nangman Jjamppong?
Located in the heart of Chungmuro and Euljiro, Nangman Jjamppong is packed with local office workers during lunchtime.
If you plan to visit, you should arrive right after opening or before 11:30 AM, before the office crowd descends, to ensure you can dine.
We arrived around 11:30 AM on a weekday and, fortunately, there was only one team ahead of us, so we only waited about 5 minutes before being seated right away!
If the wait is too long, or if you live or work nearby, takeout is also an option!
You can place an order in advance, pick it up, and enjoy it comfortably without any waiting – a fantastic alternative!
Exterior / Interior
With its warm, wood-toned exterior at the entrance of the alley, it's easy to find without getting lost.

You know how sometimes older, traditional Chinese restaurants can be a little lacking in cleanliness?
But this place was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which I really appreciated.
The interior is decorated with a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, perfect for groups to gather and enjoy a meal.
Menu & Order Details
This place essentially has a single menu item!
They don't offer typical Chinese dishes like Tangsuyuk or Jajangmyeon; they only sell Jjamppong and Mussel Jjamppong, both made with a bone broth base!
You can choose between rice or noodles, depending on your preference.

Order Details
·Mussel Jjamppong ~$9 * 3
·Fried Dumplings ~$2
Review
It was peak lunch hour on a weekday, so the interior was already full, and I could even spot traces of past TV appearances through the window.

Aprons are hanging by the entrance!
Since the broth can splash, it's super convenient to grab one per person as you enter and then take your seat!

On the table, you'll find paper cups, cool water, tissues, and a cutlery holder, along with the classic Chinese food sidekick – refreshing pickled radish (danmuji) – served as a basic accompaniment.

The ordered dishes arrive quickly and all at once, which is perfect for getting those main dish photos!

Finally, today's main event has arrived: Mussel Jjamppong!
Living up to its name, fresh and plump mussels, not a single one broken, are piled high like a mountain in the bowl, topped perfectly with savory meat garnish.

Before we really dug in,
my friends and I diligently shelled the mussels, all three of us.
After we were done, one large bowl was
completely filled with shells – that's how incredibly generous the portion was!

If you overcome the slight bother and just pick out the plump mussel meat,
you'll be rewarded with a jjampong that's half broth, half mussels – a truly stunning sight!

Unlike typical jjampong with its fiery red and intense chili oil broth,
this one is made with a rich beef bone broth base, which gives it
a creamy, deep color that reminds you of rosé jjampong.

With one bite, your palate is hit with a rich yet clean umami flavor that isn't heavy,
filling your mouth with a refreshing taste.
It's the perfect dish to boost your energy and cure a hangover!

The noodles, too, absorb the broth beautifully, making them wonderfully chewy and springy.
Pile a spoonful of noodles high, top it with a plump mussel,
and take a bite! The mussels are perfectly cleaned,
so there's absolutely no gritty texture – just pure, clean deliciousness.

When jjampong alone just isn't quite enough, fried dumplings are the perfect complement!
You can order them not just as a full plate, but also as a half plate.
It's great when you're dining as a pair or just need a little something extra.

They arrive at your table freshly fried right after you order,
golden-brown and piping hot. Take a bite, and you'll experience a delightful crispness
and a satisfyingly full filling – they pair perfectly with jjampong!
