Penang is beautiful, but let's be real—it is always a scorching summer here, with temperatures consistently hovering around 86°F.

Back home, I rarely crave ice cream, but the tropical Penang heat makes me constantly hunt for something cold and refreshing.

Before my trip, I kept seeing posts about this super cute ice cream brand with an adorable snowman mascot. Luckily, there was a branch right near our accommodation!

Introducing MIXUE.

The branch I visited is located inside the popular Gurney Plaza mall.

Since Mixue is an incredibly popular brand, you will easily spot their branches all over Malaysia during your travels.

Their opening hours align with Gurney Plaza's mall hours, running from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.

MIXUE Menu & Honest Review

I initially thought they only sold basic soft-serve ice cream, but the menu was surprisingly diverse!

They offer classic soft-serve cones, sundaes, bubble teas, fresh fruit teas, and even coffee options.

My husband ordered the Matcha Mix Ice Cream (2 RM = ~$0.40),

while I opted for the Ice Cream Latte (5.5 RM = ~$1).

It looks like they are heavily promoting their matcha flavors right now!

You can choose from three different drink sizes, but since the Ice Cream Latte defaults to a Medium, I went with the standard size.

The server apologized with a laugh because the matcha soft-serve swirl wasn't perfectly straight, but it still looked delicious to us!🤣

The Ice Cream Latte had a sweet surprise we didn't expect: brown sugar jelly at the bottom!

Many Malaysian drinks can be overwhelmingly sweet, so I was a bit worried. However, this was perfectly balanced—sweet enough to be a treat, but refreshing enough to finish easily.

Getting a decent coffee topped with rich soft-serve ice cream for just ~$1 is an absolute steal!

The Matcha Mix Ice Cream was a masterpiece of flavors. The slight bitterness of the matcha perfectly cut through the creamy sweetness of the vanilla soft serve.

Because of the matcha, it wasn't overly sugary. Even my husband, who usually avoids sweet desserts, absolutely loved it.

And for only ~$0.40? You literally cannot beat this!

Overall Verdict

MIXUE has been expanding globally, and you can find them in several countries now. However, the prices here in Malaysia are incredibly hard to beat.

It’s not just cheap; the quality and taste genuinely stand out. I will definitely be stopping by whenever I see their cute snowman mascot during my travels.
