To kick off my summer vacation this past Friday, I took a delightful drive to Yeongjongdo Island!
For a perfect brunch spot, I chose the renowned Miaene Kalguksu Main Branch!
Since I visited in the morning, I was able to get a table right away without any wait,
which made the meal even more enjoyable and relaxing.

Miaene Kalguksu is a famous restaurant with seven locations just on Yeongjongdo Island.
I made sure to visit the original Main Branch for the authentic experience.

Interior and Atmosphere
The interior was surprisingly spacious, with plenty of seating, including tables for larger groups.
Since kalguksu is a quick-service dish, the turnover rate is quite fast.
Many reviews mention long waits during weekend lunch hours,
but because I visited on a weekday morning, I was seated immediately.
The dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant also made it a convenient stop during a drive.
Menu and Prices
We ordered two servings of the Seafood Kalguksu.

While waiting for our kalguksu, a small bowl of barley rice (boribap) was served first.
Along with it came traditional Korean side dishes: kimchi, young radish kimchi (yeolmu kimchi), and shredded radish salad (musaengchae).
These side dishes were perfect to mix into the barley rice, making a delicious and refreshing appetizer.
It was a satisfying way to curb our hunger and kept us entertained until the main course arrived.
The Seafood Kalguksu was incredibly generous with its ingredients, packed with fresh clams and other seafood. Just looking at it made my mouth water!
It was brimming with a variety of fresh seafood, including littleneck clams, mussels, scallops, and shrimp.
As the broth simmered, the refreshing flavors of the seafood intensified, developing a deeper and richer aroma.
The broth was clean, yet packed with a lasting umami flavor that truly hit the spot.
Beyond the abundant seafood, what really stood out was the noodles!
The portion of noodles was generous, and their irregular sizes and thicknesses made them feel like they were freshly hand-kneaded.
This gave them an incredibly springy and chewy texture that I absolutely loved.
There were so many clams that it felt like they would never run out, no matter how much I ate!
Final Thoughts
For a scenic drive on Yeongjongdo Island and an unforgettable meal, Miaene Kalguksu was an excellent choice.
We thoroughly enjoyed the hearty Seafood Kalguksu, brimming with fresh clams, and the satisfying barley rice served before the main course.
Visiting in the morning also allowed us to savor our meal in a peaceful and unhurried atmosphere, which was a definite plus.
