Penang's daytime can get incredibly hot,
so in the afternoons, instead of being out and about,
I usually prefer to relax at home
or find a cozy cafe to spend some time.
Since I mostly work on my blog,
I'm always on the lookout for places with good Wi-Fi.
Luckily, I found a cafe nearby that not only had Wi-Fi
but also came with excellent reviews, so I headed straight there.
LOVE A LOAF Plus
It's the Vantage Tanjung Tokong branch.

Location
Upon checking, I found that there are several branches across Penang,
and it's a local Penang brand, exclusively found in the Penang area.
The branch I visited was in
Tanjung Tokong.
Seeing "Plus" in its name,
I'm guessing it might offer an even wider menu selection!
Love a Loaf is located on the first floor of a commercial complex,
and it's not the only great spot around here.
There are plenty of other cafes and restaurants in the vicinity.
Most of them have high ratings and a clean atmosphere,
so if you're ever in the area, definitely check them out!
Operating Hours
They're open daily from 08:00 - 22:00,
operating from early morning until late evening,
making it perfect for a visit anytime!
A Look Inside & Bread Selection
The interior is quite spacious.
With plenty of tables, it feels fresh and inviting,
and I really loved the clean, minimalist decor.
The walls are lined with a tempting array of different breads,
and there's a wide variety of cakes too!
I heard that many people often buy whole cakes from here to take home.
You can even get a whole cake generously topped with fresh fruit
for around ~$14!
That's an amazing deal, right?!
The Tanjung Tokong area, where I'm currently staying,
is a new town with a very clean and tidy atmosphere.
It's a popular area for expatriates, including many Koreans and Japanese residents.
Perhaps that's why, while I was there,
I saw many Westerners, as well as
Koreans and Japanese families dropping by with their children after school.
Seeing *Kkwabaegi* (Korean twisted donuts) on offer,
it really made me think there must be a significant Korean community here!
You'll also find plenty of other delicious breads, like salt bread, and a great selection of desserts.
With such an abundance of bread,
I really wanted to try something,
so I picked one of the rolls from the left picture.
Among them, I chose the Taro Roll,
which felt the most Malaysian.
They also sell sandwiches,
and a sandwich substantial enough for a full meal
is only ~$2.
Malaysia's prices are truly amazing!
Beverage Menu & Review
Actually, Penang's coffee prices are a bit on the expensive side
when considering other costs of living.
They usually range from early to late 10 Ringgit, which is about ~$2-$3,
so you could say it's not much different from Korea.
But there are so many beautiful cafes,
that I just can't resist visiting them 🤣
They also sell pasta boxes and poke bowls
that you can have as a meal, so if you're looking for a quick bite,
Love a Loaf might be a great place to visit.
We ordered a Taro Swiss Roll,
an Iced Latte, and an Iced Matcha Latte.
Iced Latte (11.90 Ringgit)
Most drinks sold at Penang's hawker centers and restaurants
are packed with sugar, so it's not easy to find unsweetened options.
Perhaps that's why the regular Iced Latte
tasted so incredibly good to me.
The coffee here is simply delicious on its own.
Made with beans that aren't acidic,
it's a flavor that anyone can enjoy without strong preferences.
Iced Matcha Latte (12.90 Ringgit)
The Matcha Latte was actually quite ordinary.
It wasn't bad, but it's hard to recommend.
It's also generally hard to find a truly great matcha latte.
Taro Swiss Roll (4.70 Ringgit)
They didn't plate the roll separately;
you just grabbed a fork to eat it, which was a little disappointing.
However, the Swiss roll itself was delicious,
a soft roll with a delightful, earthy taro flavor.
With plenty of cream that wasn't overly sweet,
it was a perfect dessert to enjoy with coffee.
Overall Review
Love a Loaf
is a fantastic cafe with delicious coffee and bread,
plus free Wi-Fi, making it ideal for working on your laptop.
It wasn't noisy,
and perhaps because most customers were buying bread to go,
the interior wasn't too crowded, which I really liked.
Next time I visit,
I plan to buy and try a variety of their breads.
As this bread paradise is constantly bustling with happy customers,
if you ever find Love a Loaf nearby,
you absolutely have to pop in and taste the magic!
