Lisboa Card 48-Hour Review 2026: How to Buy & Exchange

While preparing for our independent trip to Lisbon, Portugal,

the first thing we really had to think about was

how to tackle Lisbon's infamous hills.

True to its nickname, 'The City of Seven Hills',

it was clear that just walking around would completely drain our energy in a single day.

So, to avoid the hassle of buying tickets every single time on the spot,

we decided to purchase the **Lisboa Card**, which perfectly doubles as a transport pass! ✨

It was super convenient to buy it in advance through the app

while on the train heading from Porto to Lisbon.

After truly making the most of it for two days, covering everything from public transport to tourist attractions,

I'm going to share my **review of using the Lisboa Card 48-hour pass** & **pro tips for exchange locations**.

Lisboa Card Purchase Price and Discount Booking Tips

While you can certainly purchase the Lisboa Card directly

at local Tourist Information Centers or the airport,

due to the huge influx of tourists from all over the world,

the waiting lines for on-site ticket purchases can be incredibly long during peak season or peak times.

My partner and I are firm believers that 'time is gold' when traveling,

(I'm a super planner J!)

so on our way to Lisbon, we pre-paid on the **MyRealTrip app**

and received a **voucher (QR code) on our smartphone**.

This made us feel completely at ease, with no waiting in line for reservations – it was incredibly convenient and just perfect!

the name of the product we purchased might have changed!

📌Based on the official brochure we received in Lisbon:

The **prices by duration** were as follows:

✔️**24-hour pass**: 31 Euros (Children 21 Euros)

✔️**48-hour pass**: 51 Euros (Children 28 Euros)

✔️**72-hour pass**: 62 Euros (Children 35 Euros)

Considering the current Euro exchange rate (around 1,700 KRW),

if you calculate for two 48-hour passes, it would come out to 102 Euros (approximately ~$128).

However, by pre-purchasing through the MyRealTrip platform

and applying **credit card payment benefits** and **discount coupons**, we completed the payment for approximately ~$105.

It's definitely more advantageous to use discounts from our home country's platforms

than to buy these directly on location! ✨

Lisboa Card Exchange Locations & How to Collect Your Physical Card

The voucher you purchased in advance through the app must be exchanged for a physical magnetic card

at a designated Lisboa Card exchange point upon arrival in Lisbon.

You can collect it at the airport information desk or at one of the 'Ask Me Lisboa' Tourist Centers located throughout the city.

Since our accommodation(Rossio Plaza Hotel) was right in the city center, 

we decided to head to the center in 'Praça do Comércio', which had the best accessibility!

But the square was so vast that finding the exchange point was tough at first;

Google Maps reviews and blog posts all varied slightly, so we kept going back and forth, wandering around.

At first, we only looked for the purple i and thought this was it,

but this was the Lisboa Story Centre.

Some said they exchanged it here at BACALHAU (Codfish Exhibition),

and we also went in here at first, but it didn't feel right, so we just came back out;

After wandering for a long time, we finally found it: not along the Bacalhau Exhibition Hall side of the square,

but on the opposite side, walking towards the middle of the square's buildings, you'll spot a

purple neon 'i' sign. Finally! This is the real pick-up point.

Once inside, just show the staff your voucher on your screen,

and they'll immediately give you the physical card along with a guidebook detailing its benefits.

The card cannot be reissued if lost, so make sure to keep it safe throughout your trip.

Lisbon's Ultimate Transit Pass (Unlimited Bus & Tram Benefits)

The biggest reason to buy the Lisboa Card is none other than

⭐️free admission to major attractions & unlimited public transport benefits⭐️

Initially, we were debating how to handle public transport in Lisbon,

but since we were planning to visit tourist attractions anyway,

we decided to purchase the Lisboa Card, knowing we could definitely get our money's worth by combining attraction entry fees and transport costs.

📌Public transport that can be used for free with the Lisboa Card

✔️CARRIS: City buses, yellow trams, Santa Justa Lift (funiculars)

✔️METRO: All Lisbon Metro lines

✔️CP trains: Trains to nearby areas like Sintra and Cascais

No need to separately load a Lisbon transport card like Viva Viagem;

with this single card, we could ride almost all public transport within Lisbon city limits unlimited for 48 hours.

And for those traveling to the Lisbon outskirts,

the Lisboa Card is an absolute jackpot.

(Unfortunately, we couldn't make it to Sintra in the outskirts.)

Lisbon's iconic 'Tram 28' is incredibly popular,

so it was always packed whenever we rode it.

Quickly boarding and buying a cash ticket inside its cramped space is quite a hassle.

Also, pickpocketing is a major concern, so when you ride Tram 28,

they warn you to watch out for pickpockets.

BUT if you have a transit pass, all you have to do is tap it on the terminal, which was incredibly convenient.

When you walk around Lisbon, steep uphill roads constantly appear.

Even if it's just a 10-minute walk, there are many places with steep inclines,

so being able to comfortably ride buses or trams without worrying about fares was absolutely fantastic!

It felt like I was rich, haha!

Tips for Using and Maximizing Your 48-Hour Pass

Just because you received the physical card at the exchange point doesn't mean the time starts deducting immediately.

The 48-hour countdown begins precisely from the moment you first tap the card on a public transport terminal (for trams, buses, subways, etc.) or when you first enter an attraction for free.

So, rather than activating it on the evening of your first day when you might not travel much,

it's a golden tip to activate it when you start your itinerary early in the morning⭐️

We also used the card for the first time on the morning after we received it.

By the way, the information desk staff told us to definitely write down the date, time, and name when we first used the card—!

After calculating the actual admission fees for the attractions we visited and two days of transportation costs,

it far exceeded €51, so we perfectly got our money's worth – feeling super satisfied!💛
