LX Factory & Time Out Market
A Full Day's Itinerary, All Mapped Out
When planning my self-guided trip to Lisbon, the biggest challenge was figuring out the best daily route.
There's so much to see, but with all the hills, you'll quickly run out of energy if you just wander aimlessly.
Both spots are riverside, making travel easy. You can explore during the day and enjoy delicious food at night, wrapping up your day perfectly.
If you're contemplating your Lisbon self-guided itinerary, I've put this together hoping it will be a helpful reference!
📍 LX Factory
R. Rodrigues de Faria 103 Piso 3, 1300-501 Lisboa, Portugal
📍 Lisbon Time Out Market
Av. 24 de Julho, Ribeira Market, 1200-479 Lisboa, Portugal
If you're visiting Lisbon's essential attractions like Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, and Pastéis de Belém, then LX Factory and Time Out Market are excellent spots to stop by on your way back to the city center.
If you combine Belém and the Monastery in the morning, you can connect them efficiently with just one 15E tram ride.
I recommend visiting Belém Tower, the Monastery, and Pastéis de Belém (the famous egg tart shop) all in one day, referencing my previous post for details!
Start with the spots further from the city center and gradually work your way in~
If you do a lot of walking at the Monastery, you can skip LX Factory and rearrange your itinerary to match your own energy levels ⭐

How to Get to LX Factory

From the city center, take the 15E tram and get off at the Calvário stop; it's just a short walk from there.
LX Factory

LX Factory is located in the Alcântara district, directly beneath the 25 de Abril Bridge, giving it a unique structure where you literally pass under the bridge.

It's a renovated old factory complex, so as soon as you enter, you're greeted by walls full of graffiti and murals.
With concept stores, cafes, and restaurants nestled between the factory buildings, it's a fantastic spot for photos no matter where you shoot.
Maybe it was because Jerónimos Monastery was closed that day (?), but it was incredibly crowded! 😅

They also hold a flea market called LX Market on Sundays, so if your schedule allows, I highly recommend visiting on a Sunday!
The flea market has so many fascinating items to browse, and they sell a wide variety of football jerseys, which seemed very popular! Haha.

The most memorable spot for me was the bookstore,
Ler Devagar.
With its ceiling-high bookshelves and bicycle sculpture suspended in the air, it felt more like an exhibition space than just a bookstore.
Even if you don't buy a book, it's absolutely worth visiting just to look around!
If you take your time exploring, 2-3 hours will fly by, so keep that in mind! (Highly recommended if you love browsing)
Timeout Market

From LX Factory, you just need to hop on the 15E tram again.
It's a short ride, so you'll arrive quickly!

Timeout Market is located directly opposite the station, within Mercado da Ribeira.
Being inside the building made it easy to spot.
You'll see 'Timeout' clearly written in big letters right in front of the entrance!

Stepping inside Lisbon's Timeout Market, you're greeted by long communal tables stretching down the center,
surrounded by stalls from famous Lisbon restaurants
and chef-driven eateries.
You simply order from your desired stall, grab a vibrating pager,
and then enjoy your meal at your chosen spot.
However, during dinner hours, finding a seat can be incredibly competitive...!
If you're with company, it's a smart move for one person to secure a table first
while the others head off to order.

While exploring Timeout Market, we even bought some Portuguese cigarettes from a vendor
as a souvenir for my husband's acquaintance 😅😅
First off, if you make it to Timeout Market, I highly recommend taking a full sweep
to see all the diverse offerings available.
From there, you can pick your favorite dishes and order away!
So, take your pick and dig in! ~~
Ground Burger

To satisfy my husband's absolute favorite, a hamburger,
we opted for Ground Burger, drawn in by the long line of people that made it look incredibly delicious,
and ordered our burgers there.

Whoa....
It wasn't quite the size of hamburger we expected,
but it had all the essential ingredients.
What really stood out was the patty's thickness,
allowing for a truly rich and flavorful burger experience 👍
Marlene Vieira

As we looked around for other options, we spotted 'polvo' (octopus)
and decided to try Marlene Vieira because we were craving it.

They had tempting dishes like paella on display, and, of course, the star of the show: polvo.
As tourists, having visual food samples is
absolutely wonderful!
And to go with the polvo, we just had to order some wine – it's a perfect pairing!

Our polvo arrived, beautifully presented atop a bed of mashed potatoes.
To be honest, it wasn't quite the same breathtaking flavor as the polvo we'd experienced at restaurants in Porto or Lisbon,
but for a food court-style meal, it was pretty good, akin to what you'd find in a high-quality food hall back home.
So, keep that in mind when you order!
It might be that the food at Timeout Market is generally like this across the board...?!
Nonetheless, with the drinks, the lively crowd, and the vibrant atmosphere,
we had a truly enjoyable experience, soaking it all in.
It's definitely a place worth visiting at least once! ✌️
