If you're planning a trip to Lisbon,
you'll definitely want to visit these major hot spots:
Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, and
Pastéis de Belém, the famous egg tart bakery.
An essential course for your independent trip to Lisbon,
explore World Heritage sites in the Belém district,
and even discover the original egg tart bakery –
a perfect half-day itinerary that conquers it all!
I started from the furthest point from Lisbon city center
and visited them in order. Here’s the sequence:
Belém Tower ➡️ Jerónimos Monastery ➡️ Pastéis de Belém
📍 Belém Tower
Av. Brasília, 1400-038 Lisboa, Portugal
📍 Jerónimos Monastery
Praça do Império 1400-206 Lisboa, 1400-206 Lisboa, Portugal
📍 Pastéis de Belém
R. de Belém 84 92, 1300-085 Lisboa, Portugal
1. | Taking the Tram to Belém Tower |

📍 Travel Tip: Getting to Belém District from the City Center
Take the yellow Tram 15E.
If your accommodation is in central Lisbon, you usually
can board at Praça do Comércio or
Praça da Figueira stops.
Just hop on!
(The stop with everyone queuing is usually it 🤣)
The journey to Belém Tower or the Monastery typically takes about 25-30 minutes.

Just tap your Lisboa Card,
and enjoy unlimited free rides with no extra charge!

It's cheaper to prepare your Lisboa Card in advance.
2. | Belém Tower |

After getting off the tram, cross the main road via the pedestrian bridge,
and a lush green field will unfold before you.

Teeming with travelers, this was
Belém Tower (Torre de Belém).
Belém Tower holds immense historical significance.
It served as a landmark, welcoming countless explorers
as they set sail and returned, and a fortress guarding the Tagus River.

There were so many people, so just find
empty spots here and there to take your photos 😅

Belém Tower - Free entry with Lisboa Card
(Unfortunately, entry was not possible on my visit due to construction/maintenance ㅠㅠ)

They say when the tide comes in, it looks like it's mysteriously
floating on the sea.
While going inside is great, the exterior itself is so beautiful that you can
sit on the riverside lawn with Belém Tower as your backdrop and
Just taking photos was totally worth it!
3. | Jerónimos Monastery |

Where you can immediately feel the grandeur of a UNESCO World Heritage site
Jerónimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos)

Symbolizing the Golden Age of Portugal's Age of Discoveries,
it's an iconic architectural masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Maybe it was the beautiful weather, but the colors were so vibrant and stunning!

It was already majestic from a distance,
but up close, it's an even more incredible and impressive building.
It truly showcases the essence of Manueline style, Portugal's unique architectural expression.
As if reflecting the era of maritime exploration, the columns and walls are adorned with intricate carvings of ropes, shells, anchors, and sea creatures.

Jerónimos Monastery
Free admission with the Lisboa Card
Unfortunately, entry wasn't possible on our visit day due to a mass schedule. ㅠㅠ
You can enter quickly through the dedicated Lisboa Card queue,
saving both time and money. So, if you're planning a trip to Lisbon,
I highly recommend the Lisboa Card!
If you don't have a Lisboa Card, you can purchase tickets separately.
With an e-ticket, you can enter directly through the monastery entrance without needing to visit the Archaeology Museum in the building next to Jerónimos Monastery to buy a ticket,
making it super convenient ⬇️
📌 While buying tickets on-site isn't terrible,
personally, the queues can be seriously long, and if it's your first time,
the sheer size makes the entrance confusing, so I strongly recommend preparing your tickets in advance for a smoother experience.

Although entry wasn't possible that day, there was actually a mass taking place.

Since a mass was actually in progress, the atmosphere was quiet and solemn,
so we just took a quick peek and left.

Inside where the mass was being held, there was a place to light candles and offer prayers, so we checked it out
and offered our own prayers too.

Each candle cost 1 Euro, and you just put the money in the box and
freely light a candle to make a prayer (or wish).
🙏
4. | Pastéis de Belém - Lisbon's Original Egg Tart Hotspot |

Located right next to the Jerónimos Monastery,
you'll find **Pastéis de Belém**, the definitive original spot
for Lisbon's iconic egg tarts.
Not sure where it is?
Just follow the crowds...🤣

The blue banners of **Pastéis de Belém** were truly beautiful!
They've been crafting egg tarts since 1837, using a secret recipe
passed down from the monastery – truly the original of originals!
An absolutely unmissable egg tart spot if you visit Lisbon.

Take a close look – there are separate lines for takeout
and dining in, so be sure to check carefully before queuing!
Even if the line seems long, the takeout queue moves surprisingly fast,
making the wait quite manageable, so keep that in mind!

Feeling a bit disappointed after "missing out" on the Jerónimos Monastery,
we decided to enjoy our egg tarts right inside the cafe.
There was even a menu in the waiting area, so we happily browsed while we waited 😊

The queue was immense, but the interior seating had a surprisingly quick turnover,
so we were ushered in much faster than we expected.
Turns out, there's a vast amount of seating inside,
and even more tables outdoors!

And here it is – our long-awaited egg tart (Pastel de Nata)!!!
The moment you take a bite, the crispiness of the pastry combined with
the warm, silky custard cream just melts in your mouth –
absolutely divine! 👍
Being back home, I can confidently say that Portugal truly makes
the best egg tarts in the world...👏

Each table has cinnamon and powdered sugar, so you can sprinkle them to your liking.
It truly doubles the flavor and adds an extra layer of deliciousness, so enjoy to your heart's content~
Of all the amazing places to explore in Lisbon,
the **Belém District** truly has it all – history, incredible sights, and mouth-watering food –
a perfect trifecta for any explorer!
With just one Lisboa Card, you can hop on Tram 15, enjoy free entry to major historical sites, truly maximizing your benefits,
and then cap it all off with those sweet, original egg tarts –
completing a truly unforgettable day in Lisbon! ⭐
The Lisboa Card is absolutely essential, so make sure to grab yours
conveniently and affordably in advance! ⬇️
If you're planning your own adventure in Lisbon,
I highly, highly recommend saving this itinerary – it's a game-changer!
