Lisbon's Seafood Rice & Polvo Gem - Taverna Alfacinha

As the sun began to set and evening fell,
I ventured here purely based on Google reviews, to
Taverna Alfacinha, Lisbon's spot for seafood rice and polvo.
Honestly, if you come to Portugal and don't try the seafood rice and
octopus dishes, you'll genuinely regret it! 🫥
Turns out, this culinary hotspot near the Baixa district is famous for catering to Korean tastes,
and is quite renowned!

Stepping inside, I was struck by the sheer number of tables,
making it seem perfect for group outings or family gatherings.
It was a place with a wonderfully cozy atmosphere.

Looking at the menu at Taverna Alfacinha, Lisbon's go-to for seafood rice and polvo,
you'll find a wide variety of dishes.
When in doubt, ordering the signature dishes is always a safe bet! 😂
Since I'd already enjoyed delicious seafood rice and polvo in Lisbon previously,
I decided to order them again here, haha.

If you come to Portugal, you absolutely must try Vinho Verde (Green Wine).
I ordered the same wine recommended at another restaurant I visited, and it was delicious as expected! 👍
Don't forget to try Vinho Verde (Green Wine)! ⭐

At Taverna Alfacinha, Lisbon's spot for seafood rice and polvo,
the seafood rice (Arroz de Marisco) had a generous amount of broth,
almost looking like a ramen-rice hybrid.
Served bubbling hot in a pot, this seafood rice
is tomato-based and packed with shrimp, clams, and other seafood,
resulting in an incredibly savory and umami-rich flavor.
It even felt a bit like a hangover cure, making me want to scrape the pot clean!
(It's a flavor that everyone, young and old, will love – truly fail-proof!)
Personally, I think it would have been even more delicious if it had been reduced a bit more.

The Polvo (Polvo à Lagareiro) is an octopus dish baked with olive oil and garlic,
and I'm not exaggerating when I say the octopus was so tender,
the knife just glided right through it.
Dip the accompanying potatoes in the olive oil, and you've got the ultimate savory experience.
It's the perfect appetizer that makes wine go down easy, highly recommended! 💫

Cod Gratin (Bacalhau com Natas) is
essentially a fish gratin, made with tender cod fillets,
finely diced potatoes, and onions, all generously covered in
a rich cream sauce and cheese, then baked to a golden crisp in the oven.
The exterior is beautifully golden, while the inside remains incredibly tender,
making it a truly satisfying dish if you're a fan of creamy sauces!

When you scoop it all together, it's an absolute delight!
Portuguese cuisine can sometimes be a bit on the salty side,
so if you prefer a milder taste, just ask for "Sem Sal"
(no salt, please) or "Pouco Sal" (less salt, please) when you order.
It's the perfect way to enjoy it without it being too salty!
Lisbon's Best Jamón Spot - BEHER

This is BEHER, a specialized premium shop where you can savor
authentic Jamón and its exquisite slices – truly the highlight
of any trip to Spain and Portugal!

The moment you step inside, you'll immediately feel the authentic
vibe of a true Jamón specialist.

The aged Jamón displayed along one wall was such a magnificent sight
that I simply couldn't resist taking photos!

The Menu at BEHER, Lisbon's Top Jamón Spot.
They offer Jamón platters and sandwiches (Bocadillo)
generously filled with Jamón, so keep that in mind when ordering!
Order a glass of Portuguese wine or Port wine,
pair it with a slice of Jamón, and that combination is truly a work of art!
After a hearty dinner, we decided to come here for a lighter
second round, enjoying Jamón with wine.

Our ordered Vinho Verde (Green Wine) arrived first,
along with some complimentary chips or crackers as a snack.

Soon after, our Jamón platter arrived.
They serve Jamón made from 100% acorn-fed Iberian pigs,
thinly sliced fresh by machine or hand, and beautifully plated –
it's a feast for the eyes from the moment it arrives!

The moment it melts in your mouth, the rich, savory fat
and perfectly salty umami flavor spread delightfully – it's absolutely perfect for a second round.
To truly experience the authentic taste of Jamón, you absolutely have to try it at a specialist shop,
so if you love wine, this is highly recommended!
But seriously, it can be quite salty, just a heads-up! 😉
They also sell a variety of vacuum-packed Jamón,
perfect for a late-night snack with wine back at your accommodation
or as a wonderful souvenir gift!
Lisbon Supermarket - Pingo Doce

Pingo Doce is one of Portugal's most prominent large supermarkets,
and it's an absolute must-visit for your shopping needs towards the end of your trip!
With branches conveniently located all over the city, it's incredibly accessible!
(Just check Google Maps for the nearest one! 😉)
If you're looking to save money while traveling in Europe, a local
supermarket like this is an absolute essential stop, so make sure you visit!

The moment you step inside, you'll see why it's considered a leading supermarket – it's impressive!

Freshly squeezed orange juice is an absolute must-have on any Portugal trip!!
If you're here to travel, this is definitely something you NEED to try ⭐
Unlike the typical orange juice you find everywhere,
this has a refreshingly sweet taste that's bursting with freshness,
so I highly recommend you give it a try!
Just pick your desired bottle size, then fill it up like you would with water from a dispenser,
and pay for your super easy juice.
(Oranges are juiced in real-time!)

They had such a wide variety of frozen pizzas,
and an incredible amount of bread types too,
so if you're a fan, definitely take a look around~

During my Portugal trip, I totally fell in love with Vinho Verde (Green Wine),
so I simply couldn't pass by the wine section, haha!
Among them, I immediately spotted the wine I had enjoyed so much at a restaurant!!
It was an incredibly affordable wine at the supermarket, costing only about 4 euros.
(As is often the case, it was much more expensive at the restaurant...)
Since I loved it so much, I bought a bottle to take back to Korea,
but I regretted not buying more of this Vinho Verde 😂
(Once I crossed into Spain, Vinho Verde was nowhere to be found ㅠㅠ)
This is TMI, but you can actually buy the same Vinho Verde at specialty liquor stores back home,
though you'll pay a bit more for it.
From the seafood rice, tender octopus, and savory bacalhau at Alfacinha, where I went on a gastronomic tour in Lisbon,
to the flavorful jamón I tasted at BEHER,
and my fulfilling shopping spree at the Pingo Doce supermarket,
everything was 100% satisfying ✌️
If you're wondering what to eat in Lisbon,
I truly believe you'll have a successful and fulfilling trip!
