Our Porto photographer gave us some crucial advice:

Lisbon's hills are far steeper than Porto's, and walking everywhere will be incredibly tiring.

He strongly recommended buying a **transport pass**.

Wait, we struggled with Porto's hills, and Lisbon's are even worse...? Yikes! 😂

Taking his words to heart, my partner and I started researching Lisbon's transport cards

while on the CP train from Porto to Lisbon.

That's when we first discovered the

Lisboa Card.

When looking for **Lisbon transport passes**, we found options like the

**Navegante Occasional card** with 'Zapping' credit, allowing you to pay as you go, or the

**Carris & Metro 24-hour pass** for unlimited rides within a day.

However, we weren't just planning to use **transportation**;

we also intended to visit several **paid tourist attractions**.

For our itinerary, purchasing a 48-hour Lisboa Card, which bundled both transport and attraction entry,

was a much better value than buying them separately.

Lisboa Card Prices: Which 24, 48, or 72-Hour Pass Should You Buy?

As of 09/13/2026,

if you visit the **official online sales website** for the Lisboa Card,

you'll find prices listed with a **5% discount**.

These prices are advertised as valid until 03/31/2027.

The Lisboa Card offers the same benefits across all durations; the only difference is the length of time you can use it!

It includes **unlimited public transport** and **free entry to over 50 attractions**, along with **discounts at over 45 other locations**.

✔️ If you plan to visit only one or two paid attractions per day,

the **24-hour pass** is a good starting point.

✔️ If, like us, you're planning to explore paid attractions in both the Belém district and the Old Town over two days,

the **48-hour pass** is ideal.

✔️ If you prefer to spread your itinerary out at a more leisurely pace,

start by comparing prices for the **72-hour pass**.

Where to Purchase the Lisboa Card

When we compared prices between the official Lisboa Card website and various travel platforms,

we found that **travel platforms were generally cheaper than the official site**.

We opted to purchase through a travel platform to take advantage of discount coupons and credit card benefits.

We bought **two 48-hour adult passes**. At the time, the Lisboa Card cost 51 Euros per person, and we ended up visiting attractions worth approximately 84 Euros each!

And that figure doesn't even include the cost of unlimited bus, tram, and metro rides!

Both options require you to exchange your voucher for a physical card upon arrival in Lisbon, so the basic benefits of the card are the same.

The main differences lie in the final price you pay, as well as the discount and cancellation terms.

Factoring in the exchange rate,

booking through a platform isn't just more convenient for payment;

it was also about **~$3 cheaper** than the official site's price.

I highly recommend checking if there are any discount coupons available for each platform or benefits with your preferred payment method before purchasing! ✨

Lisboa Card 48-Hour Pass: How Many Attractions to Break Even?

Here's a list of the Lisbon attractions we visited with our Lisboa Card.

Based on individual entry fees, we saved a total of **84 Euros per person**:

We visited **7 attractions** in total,

and we had already broken even and then some, even before considering transportation costs!

Unfortunately, during our visit, the **Belém Tower and Santa Justa Lift** were not operating.

If they had been open, we would have gotten even more bang for our buck!

And seriously, Lisbon's hills are no joke! We hopped on a bus or tram whenever we saw one to get around.

We even rode the famous Lisbon Tram 28 multiple times, which made us feel like total travel winners! 💛

If you're planning a self-guided trip to Lisbon, just like we did, and intend to visit multiple attractions,

Last Things to Check Before You Buy

Operating hours for each tourist attraction can change, so it's always a good idea to confirm their current status before making your purchase.

(Honestly, we didn't know this and bought our cards in advance! 😂)

Even if an attraction is listed as free, it's useless if it's closed or temporarily suspended.

So, be sure to check the list of **❗️temporarily closed attractions❗️** first!
