Discover Kolkovna Celnice, a top Prague restaurant near Republic Square. This review covers location, hours, and how to savor their acclaimed steak tartare and chicken wings.
Hey there, fellow travelers! After sharing my Prague Airport immigration experience, I'm excited to dive into one of the best restaurants we discovered on our very first night in Prague.
After a long journey from the airport to our accommodation, we quickly dropped off our bags, and our stomachs immediately led us to Kolkovna Celnice nearby. Our first meal in Prague started on a high note, thanks to their incredible steak tartare and delicious chicken wings—both were absolutely satisfying!

Kolkovna Celnice
Location: Near Powder Tower
Signature Dish: Steak Tartare
Hours: Daily 11 AM – 12 AM
You'll find Kolkovna Celnice by heading into V Celnici Street from Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky). It's conveniently located near the Municipal House and Palladium shopping center, making it a perfect spot for a meal after exploring the area around the Powder Tower.
📍 Kolkovna Celnice
V Celnici 1031/4, Nové Město, 110 00 Praha-Praha 1, Czech Republic
As of August 2026, their official website lists opening hours as daily from 11 AM to 12 AM. You can also make online reservations directly through their official site, which is a smart move if you have a set itinerary and want to guarantee a table. Keep in mind that operating hours and menu prices can change, so it's always a good idea to double-check their official website before your visit.
The entrance features a prominent "CELNICE" sign and a banner proudly declaring it a Pilsner Urquell Original Restaurant. Through the window, you can spot large copper tanks and wooden barrel decorations, immediately setting the authentic Czech beer hall vibe even before stepping inside.
When you look at the menu, you'll notice small numbers next to each dish. These numbers correspond to allergen information listed at the back of the menu, so be sure to check them before ordering, especially if you have dietary restrictions!

The most memorable dish for me was definitely the Steak Tartare.
For those unfamiliar, steak tartare is a dish made from finely chopped raw beef. I admit, I had a moment of hesitation about ordering a raw meat dish in the summer, but it came highly recommended as one of the restaurant's signature items, so I decided to go for it. A tip I picked up from other reviews, which mentioned it could be a bit rich, was to ask for extra garlic. I sliced it in half, rubbed it onto the toasted bread, and then topped it with the tartare. The added garlic aroma really cut through the richness, making it incredibly enjoyable!

The dish arrived with the minced beef, arugula, a clove of garlic, and toasted bread. Rubbing the garlic on the bread first, then adding the tartare, made it irresistible. If you're new to steak tartare, I highly recommend trying it with a hint of garlic like I did.
According to the official menu as of August 12, 2026, the Steak Tartare (120g, approximately 4.2 ounces) is priced at 299 Czech Koruna. Please note this is the current official menu price, not our exact bill from the time of visit, and is provided for reference.

Equally as delicious as the tartare were the Kolkovna Wings. Our chicken wings arrived on a wooden tray, perfectly accompanied by grilled corn, a fresh salad, and two dipping sauces. The savory-sweet glaze was perfectly infused into the crispy skin, making them an ideal pairing with a cold beer. The refreshing salad on the side ensured that we enjoyed every last bite without feeling overwhelmed by richness.
Currently, the official menu lists Kolkovna Wings (9 pieces) for 289 Czech Koruna. While menu items and prices can vary seasonally, if you're debating what to order alongside the tartare, I wholeheartedly recommend adding the chicken wings to your order!
During our visit, a separate "Summer Barbecue at Kolkovna" menu was available on the tables, showcasing their seasonal offerings.
This special menu featured tempting dishes like Pan-Fried Burrata, Grilled Beef Maminha, a Salmon Burger with Avocado Guacamole and Sweet Potato Fries, and even a Strawberry Cappuccino topped with vanilla ice cream. Each seasonal item was presented with an enticing photo.
Since we were set on trying the tartare and chicken wings, we didn't get a chance to sample any of the limited-time barbecue items. Please note that this menu was current during our visit in July 2026, and the seasonal offerings may have changed since then.

In front of the restaurant, there's an open square-like area, with a building sporting a UniCredit Bank sign across the way. When we passed by during the day, it presented a calm, typical Prague city scene. However, after finishing our dinner and stepping out, the streetlights and building illuminations had come alive, completely transforming the atmosphere into something enchanting.

On your first day in Prague, after a long journey and battling jet lag, it can be tough to venture far for a meal.
Kolkovna Celnice was perfectly situated for us to visit after exploring Republic Square and the Powder Tower area. Both the steak tartare and chicken wings we ordered were incredibly satisfying. If you're feeling adventurous and want to try the tartare, remember that trick of adding garlic for an extra kick!
In my next post, I'll be sharing my brunch review of Café Savoy, another delightful spot we found for breakfast in Prague. Which dish sounds more appealing to you—the steak tartare or the chicken wings?
Kolkovna Celnice is located near the Powder Tower. You can find it by entering V Celnici Street from Republic Square. It's also close to the Municipal House and Palladium Shopping Centre, making it a convenient stop after exploring the area around the Powder Tower.
The 120g Steak Tartare is priced at 299 Czech Koruna as per the official menu on August 12, 2026. For a special way to enjoy it, you can request garlic separately, cut it in half, rub it on bread, and then top it with the tartare. This method reduces richness and adds a pleasant garlic aroma, making it more enjoyable.
Kolkovna Celnice operates daily from 11 AM to 12 AM (midnight), according to its official website as of August 2026. The small numbers written on the menu indicate allergy information, so it's advisable to check these numbers before placing your order.
