Savoring a popular spot without the usual tourist lines〰️〰️
For years, I'd been curious about places like Oseonmo Gimbap and Baekilhong Steamed Buns & Dumplings, but always wondered if it was worth the hype. Now, I know it is!
The timing finally aligned, and I made my long-awaited visit to this classic old restaurant near City Hall.
A beloved local eatery in Jeonju

Inside Baekilhong Steamed Buns & Dumplings

Baekilhong Steamed Buns & Dumplings is run by the master bun makers, Jang Seon-gi and Jang Jin-young, who continue a family legacy featured on "Master of Life."
Photos and videos of the dumpling-making area and staff are prohibited, so I only managed a quick, discreet shot of the wall, respecting their privacy.
Actress Bae Doona has been a regular, visiting in 2022, 2023, 2024, and most recently in 2026 (she even left a charming note lamenting her missed visit in 2025, haha!).
And Defconn's signature is adorably displayed too!
It seems not just any celebrity gets to leave their mark here; Baekilhong has an almost revered, exclusive vibe.
Baekilhong Steamed Buns & Dumplings Prices

You'll even spot actor Park Joong-hoon's signature here‼️
Both steamed buns (jjinppang) and dumplings (mandu) are priced the same: 8 pieces for ~$5.
Old photos might show prices like ~$3, but considering inflation and the quality of ingredients, it's a very reasonable price! (Apparently, they started at ~$2 originally).
Orders are taken in units of "n" servings. Both the pork and red bean paste are sourced domestically in Korea.
They make both the wrappers and fillings from scratch〰️〰️
While nationwide delivery and local Jeonju delivery are available, there's nothing quite like enjoying freshly steamed buns or dumplings, hot off the steamer, right there on the spot.

The "mandu crisis"… there really was a time like that. But despite challenges, Baekilhong has stuck to using domestic ingredients, maintaining its incredible expertise as a dumpling and steamed bun house.
Both items are popular, with dumplings tending to sell out a bit faster. However, reviews often show higher satisfaction for the steamed buns, so I opted for those this time. 🥟 I'll try the dumplings next time!
You pay after your order is packaged‼️
Visiting after 10 AM on a weekday, I found no waiting line and no other customers – truly savoring the local flavor, just like a local. Ahhh, perfection!

With that authentic old-school vibe, they simply wrapped the buns in plastic and paper, just like an old-fashioned butcher might wrap fresh meat.
Freshly steamed, they were piping hot…♨️♨️

I couldn't resist a 'road snack'!
...

The dough, beautifully fermented like traditional Korean *sulppang* (steamed rice bread), was generously filled with red bean paste. The paste wasn't overly sweet, just the right amount, making me crave a glass of milk or coffee to go with it...

I devoured two in no time!

After a quick coffee at Heuksu-sa nearby, I was ready to wrap up my short trip. But the delicious red bean filling in those buns was too good to just leave it at that!
