After walking through Incheon Open Port Area myself,
I realized that the flow of movement is really important for family trips.
While it's home to many old buildings and museums,
there were more stairs than I expected.

So, if you're visiting with a 25-month-old child,
it's a good idea to plan a shorter route,
keeping stroller accessibility in mind.
Although I explored this area alone this time,
I checked out the sights and routes with a family visit in mind.

Among the spots, Incheon Citizens' Sarangchae
is free to explore and even has coloring and traditional play areas,
making it a noteworthy option for a family itinerary.
What is the Incheon Open Port Area like?

Incheon Open Port Area is a historic and cultural street
where Japanese and Qing foreign concessions were formed after the port opened in 1883.
Old banks, warehouses, and houses still remain,
and some of these buildings are now utilized as cafes, exhibition halls,
and museums.

Notably, you can explore the Incheon Open Port Museum,
Modern Architecture Exhibition Hall, Korean Modern Literature Museum,
and the Daebul Hotel Exhibition Hall.
The Jajangmyeon Museum is also nearby, and
Chinatown, Jayu Park, and Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village are also close by.
Nearby Attractions | Why it's great to visit together |
📍 Incheon Open Port Museum | History related to the open port |
📍 Modern Architecture Exhibition Hall | Modern architecture |
📍 Korean Modern Literature Museum | Modern literature |
📍 Daebul Hotel Exhibition Hall | Story of an old hotel |
📍 Jajangmyeon Museum | History related to Jajangmyeon |
📍 Chinatown | Food and sightseeing |
📍 Jayu Park | Walks and relaxation |
📍 Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village | Fairy tale themed street |
📍 Wolmido Island | Sea and amusement rides |
If you combine it with Wolmido Island,
you can easily create a full-day itinerary.
What to consider when walking with children?

When choosing places to visit in Incheon,
if you're with children, accessibility for walking is as important as the attractions themselves.
Having moved around directly,
I found there were more stairs than expected, so
if your family uses a stroller,
it's a good idea to plan your route in advance.

If it were me, instead of walking through every alley,
I'd decide on the specific places I wanted to see first.
If you're visiting this area for family-friendly things to do in Incheon,
it might be better to add just one or two places to Chinatown and the museums,
depending on your child's energy level, rather than trying to fit everything in.
What can you see at
Incheon Citizens' Sarangchae?

Incheon Citizens' Sarangchae is a place where you can explore
the 1883 Modern House, Jemulpo Garden, and the History Observatory together.
The 1883 Modern House is described as a space that reimagines
the hanok (traditional Korean house) of the former official's residence.

It features a Sarangchae rest area and a bookstore,
along with photo zones where you can capture memories.
Jemulpo Garden is an outdoor space encompassing the front yard and garden of the old official residence.
The History Observatory guides you through a building that recreates the old guardhouse.

What truly charmed me on my visit was discovering ancient buildings and our country's traditional Sarangchae (guest quarters) right here within the city.
It made me feel unexpectedly grateful to have such a culturally rich space so close by.

The Open Port Street is easily accessible from Incheon Station or Dongincheon Station.
From Incheon Station, you can pass through Chinatown, explore the Open Port area, and continue all the way to Daebul Hotel.
From Dongincheon Station, it's easy to head towards Naeri Church and Jayu Park.

If you're simply exploring without engaging in specific activities, you can generally anticipate spending about 30 minutes to an hour.
However, please note that this is an estimated time based on my personal exploration, not the actual time for any specific experiences.

Mark your calendars! The 2026 Incheon Open Port National Heritage Night Walk is splendidly scheduled from October 9th to 11th.
They say special programs featuring enchanting lights and delightful night strolls are also being planned for the evenings.
If you find yourself seeking out Incheon's captivating destinations and visit during this special period, you'll be treated to an entirely different, magical atmosphere compared to the daytime!

If I ever visit again,
I'd love to pre-book and try
the Incheon Citizen's House Sarangchae experience.

While this time I only got to look around the space,
next time, I'd really love to experience
hands-on activities like painting or traditional games myself.
For families looking for wonderful spots to visit in Incheon,
it's best to first check for stairs and parking availability,
and then plan for a shorter visit.
