During my recent trip to Italy with my son, we stayed at Hotel Gioberti,
which was incredibly convenient thanks to its proximity to Rome Termini Station.
The area around Rome Termini is somewhat notorious for its safety issues,
so I was definitely on high alert. But spoiler alert: we ended up being very satisfied with our stay!

Although this was my third time visiting Italy,
it was my first time traveling alone with my son, making location my top priority.
If it's your first time in Rome and your itinerary is packed with city tours,
I highly recommend this hotel.
Let's dive into my detailed review of Hotel Gioberti, covering location, safety, room conditions, and the breakfast buffet!

Location and Safety: What's It Really Like?

When choosing accommodation in Rome, distance from Termini Station
was my absolute dealbreaker.
I took this zoomed-in photo from my room window in the morning,
and as you can see, Hotel Gioberti is literally a 3-minute walk from Rome Termini!

You have easy access to both Metro Line A and Line B,
making it incredibly convenient to navigate Rome's top attractions.
For first-timers in Italy, Termini is the main hub you'll pass through
for the Vatican tour or day trips to the Amalfi Coast and Southern Italy, so staying here makes trip planning a breeze.

Many travelers worry about safety around Termini Station,
and as a general rule of thumb anywhere in Rome, you shouldn't be wandering around late at night.
From my personal experience, between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM,
the area is bustling with tourists, and nearby shops and restaurants are still open.

However, the vibe completely shifts after 10:00 PM
when the storefronts close. It really feels like night and day.
I even heard people arguing on the street occasionally!
I ran out to the grocery store and grabbed some late-night KFC
around 9:00 PM, and the atmosphere was completely fine until then.
Room Condition & Breakfast Review

Thanks to its prime transit location, the check-in counter
was always buzzing with a diverse mix of international travelers.
Many historic European hotels lack elevators,
but thankfully, Hotel Gioberti has one!
It made hauling our luggage so much easier—a huge plus if you're traveling with kids or older parents.
Room Condition

European hotel rooms are notoriously small,
but it didn't feel uncomfortably cramped for the two of us.
Honestly, I kind of love this cozy, traditional European room style. :)

I booked a room with two single beds placed side-by-side.
The space was well-maintained, and the bedding was impeccably clean.
The individual reading lights were a nice touch,
allowing me to review our itinerary for the next day after my son went to sleep.

Across from the beds, you'll find a TV, desk, and chair.
Keep in mind that complimentary bottled water is provided only once per stay, regardless of how many nights you book.
Because of the hard tap water in Europe, bottled water is a precious commodity,
and even 4-star hotels rarely restock it daily.
Not pictured, but the room also comes equipped with a safety deposit box and a mini-fridge.

As is typical with European properties that prioritize preservation,
the room shows its age slightly, but everything functions perfectly.
The open-style wardrobe near the entrance was large,
and actually made it really convenient to hang our jackets after a long day out.

The bathroom features a bright, white marble aesthetic.

It comes stocked with basic amenities, a hairdryer,
and plenty of toilet paper and towels.
Italian hotels often provide all-in-one soap/shampoo dispensers,
so I highly recommend packing your preferred toiletries from home.

That heated towel rack was a lifesaver! If you hang your damp towels there,
they dry completely. Because of this, I didn't even request housekeeping during our 2-night stay.
To be honest, I'm the type who finds it more annoying to pack up
my belongings every day just so housekeeping can come in. Haha!

It features a classic European bidet, though whether you use it is entirely up to you. :)

I've experienced much smaller shower stalls in the UK before,
so I thought this size was perfectly fine.
However, if this is your first European trip, you might find the shower a bit tight
and slightly inconvenient.
Breakfast

The breakfast area is located on the top floor. You can take the elevator,
but I preferred taking the stairs to get some steps in.

They open precisely at 7:00 AM.
If you arrive early, there's a cozy lounge area next door where you can wait.

The breakfast spread was surprisingly extensive!
My son and I left completely stuffed both mornings.

They offer a great variety of baked goods and desserts,
making it fun to sample a little bit of everything.

There was also a plentiful selection of fresh fruit.
I honestly ate more fruit here than I do back home! Haha.

With options ranging from salads and hot foods to yogurt,
even picky eaters will find plenty to enjoy.

As expected in Italy, the quality of the coffee and fruit juice was fantastic.
Overall, it's a solid, satisfying breakfast to start your day.

Here's a glimpse of what my son and I actually ate over our two-day stay.
You can tell we didn't hold back! :)
My son especially loved creating his own custom salads every morning.

During warmer seasons, outdoor terrace seating is available,
offering an even better dining atmosphere on sunny days.
In my book, the breakfast at Hotel Gioberti Rome gets very high marks.
Final Thoughts on Our Stay

From the front desk to the breakfast staff, everyone was incredibly friendly.
They even let us borrow an umbrella and a bottle opener when we needed them.

I always read reviews from Western travelers carefully,
and this hotel consistently scores high for its location.
During our stay, there was an even mix of Western and Asian guests.
The location made it so easy to head out early for our morning Vatican tour.
Since most of our tours ended before 10:00 PM,
we never felt unsafe returning to the hotel.
Just remember: if you notice the streets emptying out,
it's best to head back and stay in for the night!

Given the high prices and exchange rates in Europe right now in 2026,
accommodation costs tend to be quite similar across the board.
Rather than getting lost in an unfamiliar local neighborhood while figuring out transit,
staying near Termini Station gives you a much-needed buffer and peace of mind.
I checked the rates for August 2026—definitely compare prices for your specific dates! :)
