Halong Bay Ambassador Cruise Tour 2026: Costs & Itinerary
Experience the highlight of Vietnam with a luxury Halong Bay Ambassador Cruise! Get the full scoop on itineraries, costs, and insider tips for your 2026 adventure.

The absolute highlight of our family's independent trip to Vietnam was
the Halong Bay cruise tour!
There are many different types of cruises, but since we were traveling with our parents,
we chose the Ambassador Cruise, which had numerous positive reviews and the highest quality.
Even for a day trip, you can add a private cabin, just like an overnight stay.
I'll tell you about the price difference, how much it cost us,
and what's included in the package tour!
Halong Bay Ambassador Cruise Review

It's a 4-story cruise ship, even boasting a small outdoor swimming pool,
making it the largest cruise in Halong Bay, Vietnam.
The day we booked, it was raining, and the weather wasn't great,
yet tourists from all over the world were still boarding!

A typical day tour usually involves:
Departing from Hanoi early in the morning
(pickup service option available)
Arriving at the Halong Bay terminal and boarding the cruise
Exploring Sung Sot Cave, Titop Island beach, and Luon Cave
Lunch served at the restaurant
This is how the itinerary is structured.
You can select the option that includes a limousine bus for pickup service
on the cruise booking page, but I personally found that booking it separately was significantly cheaper!
Cost

Currently, Klook is offering a 10% discount,
so you can book at a slightly lower price!
We booked the Halong departure option for 5 adults and 2 children for ~$387 +
an additional ~$66 for a deluxe room, for a total of ~$453.
We booked the pickup service separately.
I'll tell you about the pickup vehicle below!

Hanoi to Halong Bay

We booked our limousine vehicle through a Korean tour shop called 'Stay Halong'
(which, of course, we paid for ourselves!)
We booked it for ~$12 per adult and ~$9 per child.
Please note that this was based on last year's prices, so the cost might have increased by now.
If there are fewer people, you might share the ride with other tourists,
but since there were 7 of us, even with one or two seats remaining,
we had the entire vehicle to ourselves.

The reason we chose this service is that other pickup services only pick you up from designated locations,
but this one came right to the front of our hotel!
Since a cruise tour requires an early morning start,
I definitely recommend booking a service that offers hotel doorstep pickup!

The highway connecting Hanoi to Halong Bay is well-developed, significantly reducing travel time compared to before.
Mid-journey, they also make a stop at a rest area for about 20 minutes,
where you can buy simple snacks or drinks and use the restroom.
Cabins

For the Ambassador Cruise Tour, even if you're not staying overnight,
you can still add a cabin for a day trip.
We chose a deluxe room,
and it seemed spacious enough for about 4 people.
You can step out onto the terrace and enjoy the ocean view right away.

The ocean view from our cabin terrace was a hit with the kids,
but our parents loved it even more!

Sung Sot Cave

Sung Sot Cave, the first stop on our tour,
requires us to transfer to a smaller boat to get there.
The towering rocks we saw during the transfer
and the emerald green sea were incredibly unique and stunning.

Sung Sot Cave, which literally means 'Surprise Cave,'
is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.

There are a total of three main chambers, and each one features
uniquely shaped stalactites and stalagmites,
which were absolutely beautiful.
All we had to do was follow the local guide and listen to their explanations,
and there was plenty of time to take photos along the way.

Exploring the cave took about 40 minutes to an hour,
and then we headed straight to Titop Island beach.
Titop Island Beach

Once we arrived at Titop Island, there's a viewpoint where you can see
the entire island panorama, but since there are about 400 steps...
not many people went up.

Since we had children with us, we simply
spent most of our time at the beach.
After Titop Island, we headed back to the cruise ship.
Dining

Lunch was served one table per group,
allowing families to enjoy their meal comfortably.

The meal was served buffet-style, featuring everything from local Vietnamese dishes...
You'll find a delightful array of dishes, even Western-style options, to satisfy every craving!
And let me tell you, the food was absolutely delicious overall!

After soaking up some much-needed relaxation, we made our way back to the harbor.
Waiting for us at the terminal was the same comfortable limousine that brought us there in the morning,
and we hopped right in for our journey back to Hanoi.
Out of all our adventures in Vietnam, both my family and I agree,
that the cruise tour was by far the most satisfying experience!
It's perfect for a fantastic day trip,
or you can even opt for a more leisurely overnight stay,
making it an absolute must-do for any independent traveler!
