Today, I'm excited to share my honest review of Yetnal Dwaeji Gukbap, a true hidden gem in Incheon's Gyesan-dong. This spot offers an authentic old-school vibe, serving up incredibly tender boiled pork (suyuk) and deeply flavored pork soup (dwaeji gukbap).

A friend who knows all the best local eats highly recommended this place, and I've been eager to visit. If you're looking for a comforting meal with a delightful drink on the side, you're in for a treat!

Exterior / Interior

This restaurant boasts fantastic accessibility, nestled conveniently between Kyungin National University of Education Station and Gyesan Station. It’s also right by the Gyesan Traditional Market, making it the perfect spot for a hearty meal after some market exploration.

You can't miss it! The vibrant red signboard catches your eye from a distance, exuding that charming, old-school eatery vibe!

Right at the entrance, you'll find the operating hours and regular closing days clearly displayed, so there are no surprises.

Inside, the space is neatly arranged with four-person tables. The tables can be easily combined, making it suitable for small groups of four or even larger gatherings and office dinners for around eight people.

Though it's a shared restroom, the restaurant's dedicated facility is kept impeccably clean.

Menu & Our Order

As the name suggests, this establishment specializes in pork soup (dwaeji gukbap) and boiled pork (suyuk). You know it's a true gem when the menu is focused!

If you prefer your soup spicy, just let the owner know when you order. And for those who love a bit more fatty cuts of meat, don't hesitate to ask – they'll customize it to your liking!

Dwaeji Gukbap & Suyuk Review

Once our order was placed, the table was quickly set with an array of classic Korean side dishes. We received kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), seasoned chives, regular kimchi, chili peppers, garlic, and onions, along with salted shrimp sauce (saeujeot) and gochujang paste (dadaegi) for seasoning.

The kkakdugi, in particular, was perfectly fermented and tangy, so good we had to ask for a refill!

Soon after, our steaming hot bowls of dwaeji gukbap arrived, bubbling enticingly in traditional earthenware pots (ttukbaegi).

Just a quick stir with a spoon revealed generous portions of tender pork, filling the ttukbaegi. It truly felt like "half meat, half broth"! The broth itself was incredibly deep and clean, with absolutely no gamey smell whatsoever. Simply amazing!

Next up was the small plate of suyuk (boiled pork). What a thoughtful touch – it was served on a mini-burner, ensuring every last slice stayed warm and succulent!

Thanks to that mini-burner, we could leisurely enjoy our drinks without worrying about the meat drying out. The pork had a perfect golden ratio of lean meat to luscious fat. Each piece melted in our mouths, incredibly tender and never dry.

Dipping a slice into the tangy mustard sauce and pairing it with the crunchy chive salad was an absolute delight – the perfect accompaniment to a glass of soju!

Overall Thoughts

Yetnal Dwaeji Gukbap in Gyesan-dong offers a fantastic, authentic local dining experience with a charming, old-school atmosphere and great value.
