Our much-anticipated August summer getaway kicked off in Gangneung, a coastal gem in South Korea.
After arriving and grabbing some delicious street food from the bustling Gangneung Jungang Market, we settled into our accommodation. Before we knew it, evening had gently fallen.
To truly embrace the unique tranquility and soothing sounds of the night ocean, we set off for Gyeongpodae Beach. There’s simply no better way to kick off a summer vacation by the sea than with a visit to Gyeongpodae Beach after dark!

The moment we stepped onto the beach and faced the endless expanse of the ocean under the dark night sky, the fatigue from our long drive melted away. Gazing at the white waves crashing in the inky darkness, a profound sense of calm washed over us, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the romance of the summer night.
Gyeongpodae Beach: Welcoming Breezes of the Night
The initial view after stepping out of the car was indescribably peaceful. The long stretch of sandy beach along Gyeongpo Beach felt even more captivating at night than during the day. Walking slowly barefoot on the soft sand, the gentle sensation between my toes was incredibly delightful.
The night air was much cooler than expected, and each time the salty breeze touched my skin, I felt refreshed.
Thankfully, the ambient lighting around Gyeongpodae Beach made our night stroll feel safe and comfortable, not too dark at all.
As we strolled along the beach, the incredibly clear water even allowed us glimpses of marine life like sea squirts and sea urchins.
The rhythmic sound of the waves, ebbing and flowing, felt like the most beautiful music in the world.

It quickly became clear why Gyeongpodae Beach consistently ranks high on lists of 'must-visit' places in Gangneung.
Seeing families and friends laughing and enjoying the night ocean at Gyeongpodae Beach made me feel happy right along with them.

After a long walk, I felt as though any lingering stress had completely dissipated. There's a profound power in the ocean; simply gazing at it seems to comfort the soul. Watching the dark sea stretch to the horizon, illuminated by the faint moonlight, I felt all worries fade away, focusing only on the peacefulness of that very moment.

The time spent at Gyeongpodae Beach will undoubtedly be a cherished memory for a very long time. This cool night stroll by the sea, at the tail end of summer, completely recharged my energy for everyday life.
