Jumunjin's Iconic Filming Locations: Goblin Breakwater & BTS Bus Stop in Gangneung (2026)

My latest trip to Gangneung had a specific mission: tracking down famous filming locations. Even though I've explored Gangneung extensively, I realized I'd somehow missed these iconic spots. Conveniently, both were in Jumunjin, so off to Jumunjin we went!

Goblin Filming Location

This is the very breakwater where that iconic scene from 'Goblin' was filmed. It looks like any other breakwater you might find along the coast of Gangwon Province, but thanks to the magic of K-drama, it's become a huge hit! Wishing I could borrow some of that 'Goblin' power!

You'll find it by heading towards the beach past Jumunjin Port. Parking is pretty easy; you can usually just pull over on the roadside without any issues.

What really surprised me upon arrival was the queue of people waiting to take photos. It's hard to believe, but the hit K-drama 'Goblin' celebrated its 10th anniversary recently (it aired from late 2016 to early 2017, so 2026 marks a full decade!), and yet, the spot is still buzzing with fans! I felt a little self-conscious lining up.

I noticed about two-thirds of the people in line were Chinese tourists. It reminded me of how we often pack flowy dresses for trips to Southeast Asia. It seems visitors from other countries come to Korea just as dressed up and ready for their perfect shot!

While everyone was patiently waiting, suddenly a man walked right past the line and started scooping seawater. People were a bit flustered and paused their photo ops, so I thought, "Why not me first?" and jumped in. I figured I could always edit him out later.

But looking at the photos, it actually turned out pretty funny, so I decided to keep them as is! Plus, I have some shots where he's not visible. I was grateful for the quick photo opportunity, thanks to him!

Normally, you'd walk to the very end of the breakwater to get that exact drama-like shot, but the waves were too high that day, and a safety officer prevented anyone from going further.

Perhaps because of the high volume of tourists, the beach area was beautifully decorated. There were benches to sit and gaze at the ocean, and plenty more seating further up.

There was a similar-looking breakwater nearby, and I thought, "Maybe I can get a similar shot there?" But the moment I stepped onto it, *PHEEP PHEEP!* A whistle blew! "You can't go in there!"

The safety officer in the yellow vest was on duty again! I quickly snapped a photo from the entrance and scurried off.

BTS Bus Stop

The bus stop famously known as the cover shoot location for BTS's album jacket is on the opposite side from the 'Goblin' filming spot.

Again, just type "BTS filming location" into your navigation, and it will guide you there.

However, there's a crucial heads-up! My navigation tried to make me turn left onto a road that was completely blocked off.

Confused, I parked nearby and started walking in the direction the navigation indicated. Soon, I saw a sign! From where we parked, it was about a 0.3-mile walk. If the navigation had directed us past the blocked section, we would have only walked about 164 feet! Why, navigation, why?!

Here too, a line of people was waiting. What distinguished it from the 'Goblin' filming site was the presence of not just Chinese tourists, but also many Western women. ARMY, perhaps?

Oh, and this bus stop isn't actually an active one where buses stop anymore. This area is also blocked off to cars and ends in a cul-de-sac.

I was surprised to even find a phone stand installed, perfect for setting up your phone and capturing that iconic shot!

The young fans ahead of me were running and filming videos, so I decided to awkwardly follow suit, a little stiffly, of course!

It was truly fascinating to see how a single piece of content like BTS transformed a small beach area in Jumunjin, Gangneung, into a globally recognized travel destination.

Jumunjin Beach

Thanks to that navigation mishap, we stumbled upon this wonderful hidden gem on Jumunjin Beach.

It's a small pine forest with charming purple benches. Sitting here, gazing out at the ocean, you truly understand what it means to "fish for time," just like the legendary angler, Kang Tae-gong.

After taking photos at the BTS bus stop, we came back here and spent a long time just sitting, enjoying the sea breeze, and getting lost in thought by the water.

One gentleman kept returning to this spot to relax. He even told us, "Isn't this place just wonderful?"

Once the swimming season ends, the beach becomes quiet, peaceful, and serene. We even saw someone laid out on a mat, enjoying their solitude.

Jumunjin's Hottest Spots in Gangneung

It used to be that natural landscapes were the main draw for popular travel destinations, but these days, I truly feel that content is what creates a travel spot.

The Jumunjin Goblin filming location and the BTS bus stop have become special places where fans of Korean dramas and music actively seek out and visit.

After visiting in person, I completely understood why international tourists go out of their way to come to these places.
