Gangneung Family Trip 2026: Ojukheon & Gangmun Beach Itinerary
Planning a family adventure to Gangneung? We've crafted a balanced itinerary combining history, beaches, and local charm, perfect for keeping everyone engaged.
While preparing for our Gangneung trip with the kids,
the thing I searched for most was
"What are the best places to visit in Gangneung with kids?"
When you think of Gangneung, the ocean is usually the first thing that comes to mind,
but on a family trip with children,
just looking at the sea all day long can feel a little underwhelming,
and if you just keep visiting tourist spots,
the kids can get tired quickly.

So, we
mixed in a good balance of sights + ocean + food + a little shopping with the kids
to create our one-day itinerary.
It was so satisfying that
today, following up on Part 1: Food Itinerary,
I'll introduce the places we actually visited with the kids in Gangneung,
all gathered together.
Gangneung Itinerary: Places to Visit with Kids
Among the places we actually visited,
if I pick out the main attractions,
Ojukheon House
Gangmun Beach

Gangneung Jungang Market
Anmok Beach
📍 Ojukheon House

📍 Gangmun Beach

📍 Red Mangchi

📍 Anmok Beach
20-1 Changhae-ro 14beon-gil, Gangneung-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province
In between these places,
we visited countless bakeries, restaurants, and cafes,
which meant
our one-day schedule was really packed! ^^;;
This time, I'll exclude the food recommendations and
just organize the places we explored with the kids.
If You're Traveling to Gangneung with Kids, Ojukheon House is a Must!
While planning our Gangneung travel itinerary,
the place I intentionally included was Ojukheon House.
Since we were traveling with children,
I wanted to show them at least one place that was educationally significant.

Ojukheon House is associated with Shin Saimdang and Yulgok Yi I,
making it a great place to explore with kids,
and one of Gangneung's representative historical sites.
It was especially nice to be able to connect the figures they've seen in textbooks or on banknotes
directly to a real place during our trip.
Honestly, at first,
I wondered if my child would find a place like this interesting.
I actually had some worries.
Fortunately, they had a lot of fun
exploring everything.

For me too,
walking slowly through such a tranquil space
felt like it helped regulate the pace of our trip,
which had been a constant cycle of eating and moving.

It allows you to naturally share historical stories with your kids,
and parents can enjoy a leisurely stroll.
If you're looking for places to visit in Gangneung with kids,
I highly recommend including this spot in your itinerary.
When in Gangneung, Gangmun Beach is a Must!
After exploring Ojukheon House,
we finally moved on to Gangneung's highlight!
The sea!
The place we chose was Gangmun Beach.

Having come all the way to Gangneung,
you simply can't miss the ocean, right? Haha.
Especially when traveling with kids,
they often prefer spending time
playing in the sand, watching the waves,
and running around on the beach,
more than visiting the famous tourist spots adults might have in mind.

Just gazing at the water was incredibly healing.
Try to include a part of your itinerary where you spend time by the sea,
without any specific plans in between.
It gives the kids a chance to rest,
and allows parents to feel a sense of calm.
In fact, these kinds of moments
are often the ones that create the longest-lasting memories on a family trip.
Gangneung Souvenir Shops
Even before coming to Gangneung,
I had already bookmarked
the souvenir shop Red Mangchi, and we stopped by.

There were so many cute items and dishes
that perfectly suited my taste,
I was incredibly happy! ㅜㅠ
Whenever I travel,
buying a small souvenir from each destination
is a tiny happiness for me.

Wrapping Up Our Trip at Anmok Beach
The final stop on our Gangneung trip was
Anmok Beach.
It's incredibly famous as Gangneung Coffee Street,
so many of you might already know about it.
Actually, this place holds a special spot
in our hearts as a couple.

Long, long ago,
we visited this place as newlyweds, just the two of us.
After a significant amount of time has passed,
we found ourselves back here again, this time with our child, making it three of us.
Compared to how it was before,
the surroundings have changed quite a bit,
but the atmosphere of sipping coffee while gazing at the ocean
is still absolutely delightful.
What made it even more special was the dark evening
when we visited; the ambiance was truly wonderful.
After exploring various spots all day long,
to finish the trip by simply sitting at a cafe, not trying to see anything more,
and just gazing at the sea,
it made us incredibly sad to think about heading home.
We explored all these places
within a single day.

We visited Ojukheon,
saw Gangmun Beach,
went to the market,
and even Anmok Beach!
Considering we also included the food course introduced in Part 1—
like the bakery, mulhoe (spicy raw fish soup), and coffee—
we truly packed our day to the brim!
Of course, if you have the stamina,
a day trip is certainly doable,
but if I were to go again, I'd definitely opt for an overnight stay.
While there's the advantage of seeing many places in one day,
by evening,
both kids and adults were noticeably exhausted.
Especially when traveling with children,
the ability to go back to your accommodation for a quick rest
before heading out again can significantly reduce travel fatigue.
Gangneung Family Trip Accommodation
Where to Stay?
If you're planning to visit Ojukheon, Gangmun Beach,
and Anmok Beach together, like we did,
it's a great idea to start comparing accommodations
around Gyeongpo and Gangmun Beaches.
This area boasts many large hotels that are popular for family trips,
and if you secure accommodation close to the sea,
it's incredibly convenient to step out and enjoy the ocean again after your sightseeing.
The prime examples are
Skybay Hotel and
St. John's Hotel.
Skybay Hotel
is nestled between Gyeongpo Lake and the sea,
making it an excellent option for families
who want to savor the Gangneung sea while also enjoying
the hotel's amenities, such as its swimming pool.
▼ ▼ ▼
St. John's Hotel
is close to Gangmun Beach, so
if you're including Gangmun Beach in your itinerary, like we did,
it's a great one to compare based on its convenient location.
▼ ▼ ▼
Even for the same accommodation,
room prices can vary depending on your travel dates and days of the week.
So, once your itinerary is set,
be sure to compare prices based on your specific dates.
If you're pondering where to go for a family trip with kids in Gangneung,
instead of trying to cram everything into one day,
consider picking a few places that truly capture your interest
and enjoying them at a leisurely pace over a 1-night, 2-day trip.
For our next Gangneung trip,
we'd love to see a bit less, stay a bit longer,
and truly soak in the relaxed beauty of Gangneung's sea.
