Hey there, fellow travelers!
I recently took a quick 2-night, 3-day trip to Gyeongju, and I was amazed by the sheer number of charming souvenir shops around! It feels like you could spend an entire day just exploring them, and it would be incredibly fun.
Among them, I want to share my experience at Munhwamungu, a delightful shop located near Daereungwon in the Hwanglidan-gil area. This place is packed with super cute and pretty items, and the shop itself is absolutely beautiful. :>

1. Munhwamungu Location & Parking
📍 Munhwamungu
62-4 Poseok-ro 1092beon-gil, Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea
This Gyeongju souvenir shop, Munhwamungu, is situated at the edge of Hwanglidan-gil, nestled between the Daereungwon Tomb Complex and Cheomseongdae Observatory.
For parking, you can use the public parking lot shown on the map above, or the Cheonmachong roadside parking lot along Cheomseong-ro. Just a heads-up, even when I visited on a weekday, it was quite busy.
2. Exploring Munhwamungu's Charming Exterior on Hwanglidan-gil, Gyeongju

Munhwamungu is tucked away in a quaint alley. It's not just another shop in a row; it looks like a traditional Korean hanok house that has been beautifully renovated into a souvenir shop.

As I stepped through the open gate, it felt like entering a completely different world! 😶
The serene hanok with its charming courtyard was absolutely stunning! I was so excited, I immediately started snapping tons of photos.

The view from the alley entrance was so inviting that both Koreans and international tourists kept exclaiming "Wow!" and followed right behind me and my friends. Haha!

I was trying to photograph a cat statue when a real, adorable cat casually wandered into the frame! 🐈 It seemed quite used to people and didn't shy away at all.
3. Inside Munhwamungu: A Gyeongju Souvenir Treasure Trove
Just as lovely as its exterior, the interior of Gyeongju's Munhwamungu souvenir shop was filled with an array of charming and cute items.

Upon entering, you'll find various souvenirs to your right, and to your left, a wall adorned with postcards showcasing Gyeongju's beautiful scenery.
Places like Cheonmachong and Geumgwanchong are so lush and green, creating stunning photo opportunities against the clear blue sky. 😘

Can you see how the souvenirs are organized by color? There were so many adorable items displayed in pink, blue, and green sections!

Here, you'll find black & white and purple items. I absolutely love how everything is arranged by color! ❤️

I was particularly smitten with this series of items ㅠㅠㅠ. These little black characters come in various colors and are adorned with helmets or ribbons, making them a thousand times cuter!

Hair accessories and keyrings seemed to be the most abundant, and they even had the trendy keycap keyrings! *0* There was also a great selection of earrings, rings, and other accessories.

Further inside, they also sold various types of bags. I almost splurged on a small backpack since I was in need of one! 🤣
Gyeongju is such a fun city, even if you just spend your time browsing its souvenir shops! 💞

I ended up buying a hair accessory and a keyring, and the packaging was just as beautiful as the items themselves! The thoughtful touch of adding a string to the paper bag so it's easy to carry was just brilliant. ❤️

Ultimately, that adorable black character kept calling to me, so I chose the cute one with a pink ribbon. And since I'd been wanting to get a traditional hairpin (binyeo) for the summer, I was thrilled to find so many beautiful ones and picked one up! ❤️
With so many cute and pretty items, Munhwamungu is definitely a must-see when you're exploring the souvenir shops of Gyeongju's Hwanglidan-gil! :>
Munhwa Mungu is located at the end of Hwangridan-gil, between the Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae areas. You can park at nearby public parking lots or the Cheonmachong on-street parking lot on Cheomseong-ro, but please note that it can be crowded even on weekdays.
The items inside the store are organized and displayed by color, including pink, blue, green, black and white, and purple. On the left side of the entrance, you will find postcards featuring beautiful landscapes of Gyeongju.
Hair accessories and keyrings make up the majority of the items, including trendy keycap keyrings and the popular "Kkamdaengi" (little black character) series. You can also purchase accessories like earrings, rings, and traditional hairpins (binyeo), as well as bags such as small backpacks.
Purchased items are beautifully wrapped and placed in a paper bag. A unique touch is that they attach a string to the paper bag, making it convenient for customers to carry around.
