I've carefully put together our 3-day, 2-night Gyeongju itinerary
which I took with my husband and my parents-in-law.
(Honestly, I'm already dying to go back!)
I’ve put together a list of all the best parent-approved
Gyeongju restaurants at the very end of this post!

First off, since our parents are a bit older,
we decided to drive down instead of taking the KTX
to make the trip as comfortable as possible.

If you choose to rent a car right in Gyeongju,
you'll be able to explore the city in pure comfort too!

Eating delicious food, walking down memory lane (bringing back those nostalgia-filled school trip vibes!),
and taking peaceful, healing strolls—
it was truly such a wonderful trip.
📍Day 1
Seoul - Hyanghwajeong (Lunch) - Cheonmachong Tomb - Daereungwon Tomb Complex - Hotel (Lahan Select) - Mattol Sundubu (Dinner) - Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond (Night View) - Hotel
🍴Hyanghwajeong: Cockle Bibimbap & Water Parsley Pancake (Minari-jeon)
🍴Mattol Sundubu: Soft Tofu Stew (Sundubu-jjigae)
For our accommodation, we stayed at
Lahan Select Gyeongju.
You can check out my previous post for a detailed review!
(Highly recommended if you're traveling with parents)
👇🏻Gyeongju Hotel Review
As soon as we arrived in Gyeongju, we headed to Hwangridan-gil
to try the famous cockle bibimbap at Hyanghwajeong.

It was so clean, savory, and delicious
that we literally scraped our plates clean.

It's a Blue Ribbon-certified spot! We visited at an odd hour
so we didn't have to wait, but the place was still lively enough
to make us feel like we were at a hot spot.
Since it's styled like a traditional Hanok house,
our parents absolutely loved the vibe.

And since Cheonmachong Tomb and Daereungwon are nearby,
we easily walked over for a relaxing post-lunch stroll.
It was the perfect way to digest our food!

Next, we headed to our hotel!

After resting up in our room for a bit,
we drove out to a nearby soft tofu stew spot for dinner.
It's only a 5-minute drive from Lahan Select,
and since it's already a well-known local gem, the taste is absolutely guaranteed!

After finishing up that delicious dinner,
we headed over to Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond
for a relaxing evening stroll...

Wow, the night view was absolutely breathtaking!

It was a perfect, easy walking path
for my parents to enjoy at a gentle pace.
After that, we headed back to our accommodation
for some serious, well-deserved rest!
haha 😂
📍Day 2
Budukgol Restaurant (Breakfast) - Bulguksa Temple - Seokguram Grotto - Imja Kalguksu (Lunch) - Gyeongju Choe Rich House - Woljeonggyo Bridge - Cheomseongdae Observatory - Cafe (Do Not Disturb) - Nakji Masil (Dinner)
🍴Budukgol Restaurant - Gomtang (Beef Bone Soup)
🍴Imja Kalguksu - Kalguksu and Acorn Jelly Salad
🍴Nakji Masil - Octopus, Bulgogi, and Shrimp Hot Pot

We started our second day bright and early!
While it was a short 3-day trip,
my parents were already up and ready by 7 AM... 😅
T_T

After waking up so early for the first time in ages, we headed out to grab breakfast
at a place called Budukgol Restaurant.

This is an incredibly famous Gomtang spot! It's a bit on the pricier side,
but wow, the broth was so rich and authentic. I would absolutely go back!
The piping hot broth was so comforting,
making it the perfect, hearty breakfast for my parents.

With our bellies full, we made our way to Bulguksa Temple.
When you think of Gyeongju, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Bulguksa!

haha 😂
It's a classic destination that holds so many memories for the older generation, right?

Bulguksa really brought back that nostalgic school field trip vibe,
helping my parents reminisce about the good old days.
Then, we took a short drive over to the nearby Seokguram Grotto.

Seeing the grotto that we only ever saw in textbooks,
or vaguely remembered from old school trips, made for a lovely, scenic walk. After that,
it was already time for lunch!

For lunch, we had Kalguksu!
I noticed Gyeongju has so many amazing spots for meat-based Kalguksu!
We had a super filling meal at a spot recommended by a local,
and it was absolutely delicious!

And right nearby,
Gyeongju’s famous Choi Clan Old House, Woljeonggyo Bridge, and Cheomseongdae Observatory
are all clustered together, making it super easy to hop from one to the next.
This was the perfect itinerary for checking off these spots during our 3-day Gyeongju trip!

Afterward, we stopped by a cafe called "Do Not Disturb,"
which has a great view of the royal tombs,
to grab some coffee and baked treats while taking a relaxing break.

Maybe because we’d been walking so much since morning,
my father-in-law was feeling a bit tired, so we wrapped up our sightseeing for the day here!

After dropping my parents-in-law back at the hotel,
my husband and I headed out near Bomun Lake (close to our hotel)
to grab some snacks and explore a little more.
(We tried Gyeongju’s famous chalbori-ppang (sticky barley bread) and Danseokga—honestly, they tasted pretty similar!)
Since my parents-in-law absolutely cannot skip a meal,
we planned a slightly later dinner for them.

We headed to a spicy octopus spot just a 5-minute drive from Lahan Select Hotel!
As expected, it was absolutely delicious!
And then, a deep, sweet sleep.
Because we had to wake up early again the next day...
haha
😭
📍Day 3
Sillajeong (Breakfast) - Millennium Forest Garden (Walk) - Ungok Seowon (400-year-old Ginkgo Tree) - Lunch - Seoul
🍴Sillajeong - Hanu (Korean Beef) & Neungi Mushroom Yukgaejang
🍴Hyoryeong Maeuntang - Spicy Fish Stew
On the final day of our 3-day Gyeongju family trip,
we checked out of the hotel.
After frantically searching for great restaurants near Lahan Select Hotel,
we decided on Sillajeong, a fantastic Korean restaurant.

*Seriously... there are so many restaurants nearby, I absolutely loved the hotel's location!*
With our bellies full, we headed to a rising hot spot:
Gyeongju Millennium Forest Garden.

Since my parents-in-law are the type who *must* go for a walk right after eating,
our entire 3-day itinerary was basically a non-stop cycle of eat-walk-eat-walk.
haha!

The Millennium Forest Garden was absolutely beautiful.
It felt like a place that would be gorgeous in every season.
There's no admission fee, and the nature is absolutely stunning!
Tons of great photo spots, too!

Before heading back to Seoul,
we paid a visit to a place called Ungok Seowon.

It's home to a massive 400-year-old ginkgo tree,
and the traditional historic houses promised a wonderfully peaceful vibe.
We decided to stop by, and my father-in-law absolutely loved it,
which made me so happy!
And with that final stop,
before heading back to Seoul,
our 3-day, 2-night Gyeongju itinerary officially came to an end.

On our way back up, we stopped for lunch in Gunwi, Daegu,
at a place called Hyoryeong Maeuntang (spicy fish stew).
Wow... is maeuntang usually this delicious?!
It has a Blue Ribbon Survey award (Korea's Michelin equivalent) and is already famous,
and it seemed to operate mostly on reservations.
Since it takes about 30 minutes from ordering
for the food to be freshly prepared,
most people seemed to book in advance.
We just walked in out of the blue,
so we had to wait... but oh my, it was totally worth it!
Both my father-in-law and mother-in-law
absolutely loved it.
I'm naturally a hardcore "J" (planner) who loves mapping out itineraries,
and I literally scour everything from Naver blogs and forums to Google reviews
to find the absolute best spots
(yes, it takes a ton of time!).
T_T
Since these are the handpicked gems that survived my rigorous vetting,
I hope this list of eateries helps you out if you're planning a Gyeongju trip
by rental car or your own vehicle!

When traveling to Gyeongju with parents,
focusing on exploring its rich, ancient history rather than trendy, modern spots
definitely seems to be the way to go!

Oh, and one more thing!
You can't leave Gyeongju without getting the famous Gyeongju bread!
Most of them taste pretty similar,
but for some reason, I kept craving the Danseokga Chalbori-ppang (glutinous barley bread).
lol 😆

We also went to the main branch of Choi Yeong-hwa Bread, bought them fresh-baked,
and snacked on them the entire drive back to Seoul.
(So delicious!)
Looking back, I think about 80% of the success of our 3-day family trip
with my parents-in-law
came down to the perfect hotel location.
If you're planning a comfortable trip with a reasonable budget,
I highly recommend booking early
