The bakery is perfectly situated right near the entrance of the bustling Changdong Burim Market, making it an easy stop during your neighborhood exploration.

The friendly face painted on the outdoor mural seems to be the owner themselves! I immediately grabbed their newly introduced Salt Ciabatta to start my haul.

Step inside and you are greeted by the incredibly comforting aroma of warm yeast and butter. Traditional Korean senbei crackers, old-school buns, and classic loaves of bread are neatly packaged on the side shelves.

As a bakery that has stood the test of time, the variety here is impressive. However, there was one detail that might divide visitors.

The main pastry tables in the center of the room are completely open-air with no covers or sneeze guards.

Because the shop gets incredibly crowded, I unfortunately witnessed a few moments that made me uneasy—like a young child poking at the uncovered breads with their fingers.

If you are particularly sensitive about food hygiene and open displays, this is definitely something to keep in mind before visiting.

When looking at the overall selection, you will find that instead of trendy, modern European pastries, Goryeodang focuses heavily on nostalgic, old-school Korean favorites that evoke childhood memories.

The major upside to this classic style is that the prices are incredibly reasonable and budget-friendly, often ranging between ~$2 to ~$4 per piece.

With crowds of locals flowing in and out, the staff works tirelessly to restock the empty trays. This high turnover ensures that almost everything you purchase is fresh out of the oven.

And here it is—the absolute crown jewel of Goryeodang that everyone raves about: the Whipped Cream Stick!

Seeing only a few left on the tray, I quickly asked the staff to wrap one up for me. They even scooped up a generous extra helping of sweet castella cake crumbs and packed it all together!

The shop does offer three to four small tables inside if you prefer to dine in. I wanted to capture every single pastry for my readers, but the heavy crowds made it tough—so make sure to look closely at the vibrant shelves when you visit!

The cakes and roll cakes displayed in the glass showcase are also exceptionally well-priced compared to modern franchise bakeries, offering massive value for the size.

While the variety was extensive, my personal taste leans a bit selective, so I kept my self-control in check and walked away with just four carefully chosen items.

They also serve very affordable drinks to accompany your bakes. I’ve heard great things about Goryeodang's signature milkshakes, but since I had just treated myself to a large coffee over at Moai Roasters, I decided to stick to the pastries this time.

After snapping a quick proof-of-visit photo outside the shop, I headed home to give my selections an honest taste test.

Here is my completely candid review of the bakes:

Whipped Cream Stick: The one I looked forward to most, and it did not disappoint. It wasn’t overly sweet, and the texture was pillowy soft with a satisfying chewiness. Truly worthy of its signature title!

Sticky Rice Sesame Donut: A close cousin to the cream stick in terms of texture. My husband actually loved this one even more than the signature cream stick!

Salt Ciabatta: Mild and clean, but overall a very standard ciabatta without any particularly unique or standout characteristics.

Myeongran (Pollack Roe) Baguette: I typically adore savory, salty, umami-rich pollack roe baguettes, but the specific sauce recipe used here didn't quite suit my palate.

Goryeodang is a beloved local treasure with deep roots in Masan. While it might not appeal to travelers seeking highly refined, modern European-style pastries, it is an absolute dream destination for those who want to experience affordable, comforting, and nostalgic Korean retro bakery culture.

For me, it was a wonderful, nostalgic step back in time that was well worth the experience!
