During an October 2026 holiday weekend drive to the scenic Kwai River Bridge (콰이강의 다리), we stumbled upon a fantastic restaurant in Gusan-myeon (구산면), Changwon (창원) – Jeodo Gejang Jeongshik (저도게장정식).
We had initially planned a leisurely stroll around Kwai River Bridge after lunch, hoping to get some fresh air. We spotted Jeodo Gejang Jeongshik then, but their operating hours were quite short, so we just enjoyed our walk and returned home that day.
The very next day, after a drive to Jangsuam (장수암), we made sure to stop by on our way back! To save yourself a return trip like we had, I highly recommend combining your visit to Jeodo Gejang Jeongshik with a trip to both Kwai River Bridge and Jangsuam.

The bright yellow exterior of Jeodo Gejang Jeongshik is truly eye-catching!
Parking was a breeze, with plenty of open space around the restaurant.
Inside the Restaurant

The interior features all standing tables, divided into a main hall and several private rooms. I hesitated for a moment before entering one of the rooms, wondering if I needed to remove my shoes, but the owner kindly informed me that I could keep them on.

It seemed to be a family-run establishment, and both owners were incredibly friendly. Before diving into the gejang, I went to wash my hands at the back of the restaurant. I was struggling to close the door properly when the male owner, who was in the kitchen, came out and told me not to worry, he'd handle it. "Sorry and thank you, boss!" I thought to myself. The walls were adorned with charming drawings that brought a smile to my face just looking at them.

Right across from the restaurant is Gubok Breakwater (구복방파제), offering views of fishing boats. The subtle scent of the sea wafting through the restaurant truly made it feel like we were dining right by the ocean.
Jeodo Gejang Jeongshik Menu

The menu features classic Korean marinated seafood dishes: Ganjang Gejang (간장게장 - soy-marinated crab), Yangnyeom Gejang (양념게장 - spicy marinated crab), Jeonbokjang (전복장 - marinated abalone), Saeujang (새우장 - marinated shrimp), and the Modumjang Jeongshik (모듬장 정식 - assorted marinated dishes set menu). Grilled mackerel (고등어구이) was also available as an add-on. Since my husband isn't a fan of crab, we opted for the Modumjang Jeongshik for two.

While waiting for our order, I read up on the health benefits of crab. All gejang and other menu items are also available for takeout. What really caught my eye was the notice about Jeodo Gejang Jeongshik's special homemade soy sauce (맛간장)! It stated that the sauce is brewed directly on-site using various traditional herbal ingredients, with absolutely no artificial preservatives, excess salt, or MSG. The sign boasted that this "all-purpose soy sauce" could be used in any dish – how incredible!
Side Dishes & Our Order Review

Shortly after, the generous array of banchan (side dishes) arrived. We were served cucumber kimchi (오이무침), radish salad (무생채), cubed radish kimchi (깍두기), pickled chili and lettuce (고추&상추장아찌), braised potatoes (감자조림), dried seaweed perfect for wrapping gejang, and a comforting clam soup (조개국).

Even the water wasn't just plain tap water, which was a nice touch!

The portion of rice was also incredibly generous; they really packed it in! As someone who usually struggles to finish a single bowl of rice, I surprisingly devoured every grain of this densely packed serving all by myself.

Our Modumjang Jeongshik for two included two soy-marinated crabs, two marinated abalones, and two marinated shrimp.

I just had to capture individual shots of each star in our assorted platter! The homemade Ganjang Gejang, made from female blue crabs caught in the West Sea, was visibly plump with meat. And both the marinated abalone and shrimp were impressively large in size!

With all the main dishes now served, it was time for a full table shot before we dug in!

Even seeing this short clip again makes my mouth water! The Ganjang Gejang was truly delicious – not overly strong or salty, just perfectly balanced. For any marinated crab lover, the joy of sucking every last bit of meat and sauce from the shell is an essential part of the experience!

We also enjoyed wrapping rice, gejang, and marinated shrimp in dried seaweed. Adding a sliver of chili on top elevated the flavor even further!

And you simply can't skip this step when eating Ganjang Gejang, right? Neatly gather all the succulent crab meat and roe from inside the shell, add a good amount of rice, and mix it all together! It's delicious on its own, fantastic wrapped in seaweed, and absolutely divine mixed in the crab shell. My husband, who typically avoids marinated crab, surprisingly polished off two bowls of rice, while I happily finished my entire bowl.

This "rice thief" Ganjang Gejang truly makes you eat more than usual! Its flavor was so captivating, I almost wanted to pack up the leftover soy sauce to take home. That's how much I loved the taste!

The gejang set menu was already quite affordable, and the takeout prices were even better! As we were leaving, I noticed another adorable drawing near the kitchen area, so I snapped one last photo. I was practically jumping with joy from how delicious everything was!
